CALLUM HARRIOTT is back in contention for selection for York City.

Adam Hinshelwood has confirmed that long-term absentee Harriot is in contention for selection, having not featured for York since December 2023’s 0-0 draw at Rochdale.

The winger has been ‘chomping at the bit’ to be back involved for City after completing his rehabilitation and being left out of the squad for last Saturday’s 2-0 victory at Dagenham & Redbridge, but Hinshelwood remains wary as to when he should utilise Harriott’s services, being careful to avoid any setbacks for the 30-year-old.

“He’s pretty much there now. Cal has been chomping at the bit and getting a little bit frustrated, I can see that,” Hinshelwood confirmed to the Press.

“He wants to be out there and starting games now because he has trained so well for weeks, but at the same time we want Callum Harriott back and to stay back.

“The last thing we want to do is rush him back and rush him into the squad. I think that he was a bit disappointed that he wasn’t involved against Dagenham, but that extra week gave him a bit more training.

“He’s missed a lot of football, so it’s important that we integrate him into the squad at the right time, as he is chomping at the bit to get going now.”

Ryan Fallowfield was an unfortunate casualty during the away win at Dagenham, being forced into substitution in stoppage-time, but has fully recovered after a minor knee injury.

Hinshelwood doesn’t believe that the injury was caused during celebrating City’s goals, and provided positive updates on the fitness of Adam Crookes and Alex Hernandez.

The York manager detailed: “I think it was just before that [celebration] to be honest, it was just a clash of knees.

“Whether he bumped into someone else whilst celebrating or not, I don’t know, but he sort of came away gingerly after the celebration!

“It was a bit of a knee to knee, but was nothing too sinister and he has trained this week.

“He’ll be fine to play on Saturday.

“Everyone else is all good. The odd knocks and stuff, but everyone has come through and trained well.

“We had an extra day to recover on Monday, so we trained hard on Tuesday and Wednesday, so that we can be training to go on the road down South again come tomorrow [today].

“I’m just hoping that the traffic now, with the kids back at school, won’t be as bad as it has been for the last couple of Fridays!”

Crookes is approximately two weeks away from fitness after progressing well under new physio Sam Mannings, whilst young striker Hernandez is back in full training

“He’s [Crookes] getting on really well. I spoke to Sam yesterday and held a meeting with him.

“Alex Hernandez is moving really well out on the pitch. He’s getting his boots on which is a good sign as well for the young lad.

“He’s back out training when he has had a long time sat on his backside, so we’re really looking forward to seeing him out and training.

“It’s the same with Crookesy, he’s in a good place, he’s progressing nicely.

“He had quite a significant tear in his quad but he is on track to be back available in two weeks’ time.”
