ADAM HINSHELWOOD is demanding improvement from his York City players heading into this weekend’s match against AFC Fylde.
Despite York securing three consecutive wins in the Vanarama National League, Hinshelwood was left feeling frustrated after Tuesday night’s 2-1 victory over Braintree Town.
The City boss felt that his side hadn’t met the high standards that had been set, especially after an impressive display in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Wealdstone.
On reflection, Hinshelwood maintained his stance on the performance.
“We set high standards, it’s not me being disrespectful to anyone at all or to Braintree, but looking at ourselves really we could have done better with a lot of aspects of our game,” Hinshelwood urged.
“That was the main frustration, we made the game hard work.
“I put a bit of pressure on myself too and the team after the game before, but in reflection we’ve got to be happy, we got three points at home.
“We created enough chances to make the game even more emphatic.
“We just control what we can control really, I thought that our play in possession at times caused ourselves problems.

“At times it was really good, the one thing I will say about the players is that sometimes you can feel the tension we’re playing out of the back at 2-1, but the players stuck to how we want to play and that was a real positive sign.
“We didn’t do that against Boston, we kicked it high and left ourselves really open.
“But the players have kept to what we want to do, which is a good improvement for me.
“I think that my wife and family were sat behind the dugout and could see how frustrated I got, so I’ve got to be a bit more calmer!
“I just strive for perfection and I want it to be the perfect game.
“I know that you’re not always going to get that, but that’s what I want to see and we’re trying to work on.
“Our in-possession stuff, there were a few of the wrong options.
“I could remember a ball that was played right in front of me out wide, when it didn’t need to go wide at that stage.
“It was around Ashley’s [Nathaniel-George] throat and he struggled to control it, so to just have a bit more control in our passing and to control the game a little bit better.
“Then I felt that our game management when we were 2-1 up late on was pretty poor.
“We had a free-kick in front of us that led to them having a couple of corners, so that was the main frustration.
“I’m just a bit of a perfectionist and want it perfect, and I’m not going to change that.”
Hinshelwood also confirmed that his City players also felt as if they hadn’t performed to the best of their abilities, but sees that as a good sign, that his players are able to recognise that they can be better.
The York boss also felt that it showed how far the football club has come since he initially arrived last season.
Hinshelwood stated: “They was similar to myself, trying to drive those standards.
“We’ve set a real high bar and I’m always striving for that perfect game.
“No it’s not as easy as it comes, but that’s the standards we’ve set and felt that we were a bit behind it, below par, on that.
“They felt that themselves as well.
“At times last season, we paid a lot of money to get three points on the board and we’ve managed to do it three times now in this league.
“Not being disrespectful to anyone else in this league, but it’s a tough league to do that and it shows that we’re heading in the right direction.
“It’s just myself, I want the perfect game all of the time and when that doesn’t happen, I’m a bit disappointed.
“I don’t think I’m ever going to change that, the players know that a bit about me now as well.”
