ADAM HINSHELWOOD has confirmed that York City captain Lenell John-Lewis is a doubt for this weekend.

John-Lewis has proven to have a fantastic impact from the bench for York so far this season, scoring three goals and leading the way as City’s joint top scorer.

However, after rolling his ankle in the Minstermen’s 2-1 victory over Braintree Town in midweek, John-Lewis is a doubt for Saturday’s match against AFC Fylde at the LNER Community Stadium (3pm).

Hinshelwood also provided a updates on Cameron John and Dipo Akinyemi, who are back available for selection, and admitted that he was welcoming a selection headache in his back line after an impressive first two matches for Malachi Fagan-Walcott.

“Everyone is all good. The only one was Len, he came on and went over on his ankle, and was in a lot of pain from it yesterday. We’ll see how he is,” Hinshelwood confirmed.

“Other than that, everyone has come through really well.

“We’ve got Cam John back and training really well, we’ve got Dipo back training really well.

“We’ve got some good options, Mo [Fadera] as well, who we are yet to see feature.

“He’s been doing well in training as well, we’ve got some real options and good strong squad.

“It does [give him a dilemma]. Malachi performed well in centre-back and has formed a good partnership with Callum Howe as well, Ryan [Fallowfield] and Callum have formed a good partnership as well.

“There are options for us, which is good and pleasing.

“Any manager wants that, you want that headache of team selection come Thursday or Friday.

“It’s a good place to be.”

Hinshelwood would confirm that Darragh O’Connor, who suffered an injury in last Saturday’s 2-0 win over Wealdstone, is on crutches whilst the club await for results on his scan.

Adam Crookes is also nearing a return to action, along with young striker Alex Hernandez, with the duo potentially back involved in training next week.

Hinshelwood told the Press: “We’re still waiting on the scan results to come back, he [O’Connor] was in a bit of pain when walking, a bit sensitive on it.

“Sam [Mannings, physio] cautiously put him on crutches just to take some of the load away.

“I don’t think it’s anything too surgery that will require surgery or anything, we’re hoping that it will just be a muscular injury that will settle with time.

“He’s a lad that looks after himself, and I know that he will do all he can and work extremely hard to make sure that he is back as soon as possible.

“He’s [Crookes] probably looking to train and get involved with the group, he’s out of his boots and is doing some running.

“That’s really pleasing to see, the same with Alex Hernandez.

“They are two lads that since I have come to the club, have spent a long time in the treatment room.

“It’s frustrating for them as much as anyone, so I’m pleased that they are getting their boots on and are starting to integrate with the club a little bit.

“He’s had no hiccups has Crookesy, so we’re hopeful he will be able to play some part in training in the next week or so.”

Loanee Zanda Siziba’s one-month loan deal with Spennymoor Town is also set to come to an end on Sunday, but there is no current plan in place for the winger to return to York.

A knee injury is seeing Siziba currently unavailable for selection, with Hinshelwood keen for the winger to find minutes elsewhere due to the bolster of options currently available at his disposal.

“He’s actually picked up a bit of an injury himself, to his knee.

“He has tweaked the outside of his knee ligaments, so we’re seeing the extent of that damage.

“We’re keen for Zanda to continue his form and continue to get minutes under his belt, we’ve got strong options in Zanda’s position this season so the last thing we want to do is recall him, and then him not be playing or getting minutes, because that’s the important thing for him.”
