ADAM HINSHELWOOD is not expecting an easy ride when York City welcome AFC Fylde to the LNER Community Stadium on Saturday (3pm).
The York boss believes that Fylde are a similar outfit to Wealdstone, who City defeated 2-0 last Saturday, in needing a win to generate some momentum after a disappointing start to the Vanarama National League season.
A Nick Haughton hat-trick saw Fylde storm to a 3-2 victory over Solihull Moors on the opening day, but Chris Beech’s Coasters have failed to win a game since, sitting on five points and in 22nd position.
Hinshelwood stated that his players must perform to a high standard, and not become complacent against a Fylde side currently lacking confidence.
“They’ve had very tight games, I think that it was 4-3 against Yeovil in the last one,” Hinshelwood detailed.
“They play some really good football and score goals, again a bit like Wealdstone really.
“They’re similar to Wealdstone, they’re all very tight-knit games and they’ll be looking for that one result that can kick start their season a little bit.
“I’m sure that they will be looking to do that on Saturday.
“They are very close to turning things around but maybe just need that one result to go their way, as it would just give them a bit of momentum and a bit of confidence.
“We found that ourselves last year, we struggled to pick up points in the early part of when I came in, but managed to get a bit of momentum.
“Boston have managed to do it and pick up some more results, Fylde will be looking for the same.
“For something to change, maybe just a little bit of luck with a decision or whatever the case may be.
“They’re not far away from going on a good run themselves.
“I’m sure that they will be doing their work as well, especially after conceding four at home.
“We could see a side that comes here and focuses a bit more on their defensive structure.
“We just control what we can control, that’s our game and making sure that our performances are at a level.
“We feel that it has dropped a little bit below that in the last two home games, but at the same time we have got the ball into some good areas and have created some opportunities.
“We’ve played some good stuff in that as well, but we strive to be better as there are definitely areas of our game to improve on as well.
“The pleasing thing is that we have shown the players certain parts of our game that we want to improve, and they have definitely put that into practice.”
Hinshelwood also spoke on the quality of Haughton, who has been a standout player in the National League for years, but admitted that he wouldn’t be solely focusing on one player.
The midfielder is just one of many ‘very good players’ for the Coasters, with Hinshelwood impressed by their performance when facing Fylde last season.
Hinshelwood admitted: “He’s a very good player, but they’ve got a few very good players to be honest.
“I was really impressed when they came and played here, I thought that their wide players were excellent, their central midfield was good and strong.
“I say it every time and I know it seems repeated, but you’ve got to be on your game.
“Each team that comes here has got enough in their armoury to hurt you, and Fylde certainly have.”
