ADAM HINSHELWOOD praised the performance of his York City players after a highly-impressive 3-0 victory over Solihull Moors.

York battled to a fifth win from their last six to continue their push to lead the Vanarama National League, now level on points and goal difference with Barnet, after a Tyrese Sinclair brace aided City to three points and a clean sheet over a Solihull outfit that reached both the play-off and Isuzu FA Trophy final last season.

Ashley Nathaniel-George opened the scoring on the brink of half-time when beating Laurie Walker to a long ball, rounding the Moors shot-stopper before hammering home.

He suffered a hamstring injury minutes later, with his replacement Sinclair opening his account for the season with a spectacular long-ranged strike.

Sinclair doubled his tally when latching onto Lenell John-Lewis’ pass to slide past Walker from close-range.

Hinshelwood admitted that whilst it was a great performance and win, his side could have been more emphatic in front of goal, with the York boss keen to maintain the high standards that he has set so far.

“It was a great win, and I think that that sort of scoreline has been coming with some of our performances,” Hinshelwood praised.

“We’ve not quite been able to get there, but yes, it was a great performance and if anything we could have made it a bit more emphatic on the night with some of our play.

“I’ve got full belief in the squad and even tonight some of our finishing was a bit lacklustre, but I’m probably ultra critical and am always trying to drive standards.

“I look for that perfect performance, and I know that it’s not always going to be there and come, but that’s just how I am and that’s my nature.

“That’s what I want to push the players to strive towards as well.”

Hinshelwood took the time to praise individual performances and focused on the defensive aspects of the City performance, in particular Malachi Fagan-Walcott.

The Cardiff City loanee has enjoyed a phenomenal start to his stint with the Minstermen, with York securing seven clean sheets from opening 11 matches this season.

Hinshelwood assured: “There were loads of positives.

“It’s another clean sheet, seven clean sheets from 11 games is great going.

“I thought that Malachi was sensational today, he was so calm on the ball but put his toe in to start a lot of our attacks as well.

“I’m just hoping that other clubs from a higher level aren’t watching him to be honest!

“He was sensational, and he he’s got a really good partnership with Callum Howe.

“Obviously Harrison [Male], a clean sheet, everything that was asked of him he’s done well, he played out really well.

“There were lots of good performances.”

Hinshelwood was also delighted to see Sinclair opening his account for the club, admitting that the winger had been lacking in confidence as of late.

Sinclair’s two strikes were his first two competitive goals for the club, with Hinshelwood hoping that it will see the Summer signing push on in his new colours.

“Ty as well, he is so harsh and is his own biggest critic, so for him to score two goals tonight is massive for his confidence.

“It’s been coming from Ty, I see it so often in training from him and he probably hasn’t delivered those kind of moments on a game day just yet.

“Fair play to him, he’s kept going and is a real confidence player, those two goals tonight will give him so much confidence and will set him a high standard tonight.

“Some of his runs and the timing was excellent.

“We know that we have got a real talented player there and it was just a case of us being patient with him, working with him and like I say, I’m absolutely delighted for him.

“Again, Len [Lenell John-Lewis] getting involved in goal contributions for us from the bench.

“His hold up play when he comes on is excellent, he’s now providing assist as well.

“He’s becoming a real good player for us from the bench and is having a real big impact, affecting games, so to be unselfish there and play it to Ty was good.

“It was a difficult pass, I think he made it look easy so fair play to him.”

The York boss also provided a brief update on Nathaniel-George, who was the one casualty from the contest, confirming that it was merely a precautionary matter to substitute the winger in the first-half.

“He’s obviously had a bit of history with his hamstring this season already, so it was just the precaution of it.

“I think he said that he felt it tighten up and we weren’t sure if there was a pop there or not.

“We’re hoping it’s not anything too sinister, but whenever you see a player with a hamstring injury, you have immediate concerns.

“He’s been excellent for us in these last few games and we asked for something a bit different of him today, to play in-field a bit.”
