Selby Town moved up to eighth position in the Northern Counties Eastern League division one with a 3-1 victory at Swallownest on Tuesday night.

Town took the lead via Harry Clapham in the opening minute via the penalty spot, and despite the hosts levelling the scores just before half-time, late goals from substitutes Tom Parkinson and Troy Greening saw the points come home to North Yorkshire.

An incredible start to the game saw Selby awarded a penalty within the first 40 seconds after Harrison Rowley was brought down just inside the home area, and Clapham hammered the spot kick high past Ollie Sykes in the home goal.

It should have been two a few minutes later when Sykes did well to tip a Charlie Petch header away, but at the other end Town came under pressure and Liam Love produced a fantastic clearance off of the line.

Connor Charlton battled hard to flick the ball through to Clapham, but his shot went inches over the bar.

The home team responded and James Hardeman shot just over Liam Wilson’s crossbar.

Chances were falling to the Robins. Charlton found himself through on goal, but his hurried shot went wide.

Sykes just beat Rowley to a 50-50 after he was put through and Matty Dawes hit an excellent effort from 30-yards that was inches wide.

Swallownest drew level on 44 minutes when Jack Bull was adjudged to have fouled a home player in the penalty area, and Kallum Nix beat Wilson from the spot.

Town were creating chances in the second period with Clapham hitting a shot over, before a corner was deflected onto a post.

From another corner Rowley volleyed over the angle of bar and post, and Sykes was lucky when Clapham charged a clearance down but the young keeper recovered the ball.

Town had replaced Charlton with Parkinson on 55 minutes and on 82 minutes, Greening entered the fray to replace Rowley.

He made an immediate impact on the game for with his virtual first touch of the ball he crossed from the right and Parkinson knocked the ball home.

A couple of weeks ago Greening had come on as a substitute against South Leeds and won the game for Selby with a 90th minute goal.

He repeated the trick against Swallownest again on Tuesday when he was set up by Clapham to hit a sweet drive into the corner of the net sending the Town fans into raptures.
