EASTLEIGH manager Kelvin Davies was ‘disappointed’ that his side were unable to defeat York City on Saturday.
A tense goalless draw at the LNER Community Stadium meant that the spoils were shared between both York and Eastleigh, with City feeling frustration throughout the 90 minutes that they could not find the breakthrough.
York manager Adam Hinshelwood had demonstrated his annoyance after the match, saying: “In my opinion, there’s only one team that has turned up here today that’s trying to win the game, and one team that didn’t want to get beat.”
However, Spitfires boss Davies disagreed with that sentiment, feeling that he was ‘slightly disappointed’ that his side were not able to secure the three points on their long journey up North, and speaking on the two contrasting styles of play.
“I thought that we were very good on the day,” Davies told club media.
“We were very well organised, we nullified their threats for most of the game and had some really big chances, especially in the first-half, to get a goal.
“Overall, I am slightly disappointed that we haven’t come away with a win today [Saturday].
“I thought we were good in all areas.
“We allowed York to have the ball in their own half to a certain point as we’re comfortable with that, we’ve got a different profile of player at the top of the pitch.
“We were happy for them to come onto us and go a little bit on the counter.
“We were very unfortunate that that didn’t work out and we didn’t end up getting the lead and the three points.
“We were pleased, they are a good side and are up there for a reason, and at home they were probably expecting to take something from the game.
“In the end, it’s a point that we will be happy to take on the road, a clean sheet, and ultimately an underlying disappointment that it could have been more.”
Eastleigh goalkeeper Joe McDonnell made his 200th appearance for the visitors on Saturday, with Davies also commenting on his impact with the club.
The Spitfires manager also admitted that he felt it was an ‘easy clean sheet’ for the experienced shot-stopper.
Davies enthused: “He’s a massive player for the club and will continue to be so.
“To get 200 appearances under your belt at any level, and certainly to perform how he has been at the club since I’ve been here and pre-my time.
“To round that off with a clean sheet, I’m sure he’s happy.
“I’m sure he’s happy, he didn’t have to do too much today, so it was a nice and easy clean sheet for him.”
