Selby Town remained in eighth position of the Northern Counties East League Division One on Saturday when they entertained Wakefield AFC with the game ending one goal apiece.

Town took the lead on 12 minutes with a Caden Mcgrath goal, but the visitors grabbed a point minutes into injury time via a penalty kick.

However the game will probably be remembered due to the scenes in those final seconds.

Wakefield had a player dismissed in the first-half and Towns Charlie Petch was also dismissed just before the interval.

In the second-half Matty Dawes and Dan Davison both received their marching orders in the last minutes, which also saw the Town management team of Ryan Cooper, Nigel Danby, and Jamie Price all red carded within a space of 20 seconds by the match referee.

Town opened well and visiting goalkeeper Callum Gladding just got to a through ball before Mcgrath. However at the other end Petch was on hand to clear for Selby at the near post.

Robins goalkeeper Liam Wilson then made an incredible save when managing to get a fist to an effort from a visiting attacker six-yards from goal, and he later followed that up with a flying save to his right to tip an effort from Abdul Asamhoah around his post.

Selby Town were embroiled in controversy after six members of the football club were shown red cards against Wakefield. (Image: Harvey Brewster) For Town, a bemused Matty Dawes was shown a second yellow card halfway through the half and with Town now down to nine players, the home team were struggling to hold onto their lead but great defending going into injury time looked as though they would hold out.

However, the game exploded then with Wakefield given a penalty after a handball by Selby substitute Tom Parkinson who was deemed by the referee to have handled the ball, despite it looking to be a yard outside the penalty area.

Wilson made a fabulous save from the penalty kick of Jayden Sandhu, but seconds later Davison was adjudged to have handled in the area.

He was then sent off and the resulting penalty beat Wilson.

The home bench was incandescent and all three were unbelievably sent to the dressing rooms in scenes probably never seen before at Richard Street.
