TADCASTER Albion broke their away curse with a 1-0 victory at NCEL Premier Division leaders Penistone Church.
Elliott Andrew scored the game’s only goal midway through the second half.
The Brewers made the better start with Junayd Cassius-Gill causing problems as he chased down the right flank.
In only the second minute, Ethan Kachosa put over a defence splitting cross, but it was cleared before Albion could capitalise.
Penistone had their first foray on four minutes but Jordan Coduri’s cross was punched to safety by Sam Green.
With the game evenly poised, Leon Hurles-Brook tried his luck from the 18-yard line but Green saw it early with a comfortable save. Cassius- Gill then tried an opportunist effort from distance, but it sailed over the bar.
On the half an hour mark, things changed significantly for Tadcaster when Carlton Pownall was red carded for kicking Cassius-Gill when he was down.
That said, almost immediately after Penistone broke down the right flank forcing Green to race out of his box to head the ball away – the subsequent shot from distance well wide.
Leading league goal scorer, Nathan Keightley, shot from inside the area on 37 minutes , but Green’s stunning save kept the scores level.
The Brewers were straight back with Ben Tweed setting up Albert Ibrahimi but the shot was far too high. Green made another save at full stretch from Hurles-Brook.
With the interval beckoning Tadcaster turned up the pressure with Cassius-Gill heading Kachosa’s cross just over and Ibrahimi firing just the wrong side of the upright.
Goalless at half time was a fair reflection of the open play from both sides.
The second-half commenced with yet another defence splitting cross from Kachosa, but there was nobody in the box to capitalise.
With Keiran Greenway on for Tweed, Tad continued to push forward - Conor Qualter’s header at the near post on 63 minutes from Greenway’s corner just needing a little more pace.
That said they had the upright to thank on the hour as Sam Scrivens and Kieran Ryan played a one-two only for the shot to skim off the woodwork.
With Andrew on for Ibrahimi, the push for a goal finally proved positive on 65 minutes; a pin point cross from Josh Hardcastle was headed at close range by Andrew, and try as he may Adam Lawlor could not stop the ball, almost in slow motion, crossing the line.
Kachosa again displayed almost unbelievable pace as he dispossessed Lawlor way outside the box but by the time he got the shot in, the Penistone goalkeeper was back in his area to save the ball.
A Penistone substitute was booked for an ugly foul on Cassius -Gill who saw out the game in considerable pain. Kachosa had another race down the flank but went wide as he tried to lob the shot-stopper, whilst Hurles-Brook at the other end also went wide after a dangerous attack from the hosts.
Five minutes of added time was keenly fought by both teams but it ended 1-0, Penistone’s first defeat at home this season and the Brewers' first away points of the campaign.
It lifts Mick O'Connell's side to ninth in the league .
