JACK HINSHELWOOD, son of York City manager Adam, has been named in the England under-21's squad ahead of their EURO 2025 qualifiers.

Ben Futcher, the replacement for Lee Carsley after he stepped up to the managerial post for the England senior team following the resignation of Gareth Southgate, has named his Three Lions squad for this month's final EURO 2025 qualifiers.

England will first take on Ukraine at the Vitality Stadium on Friday, October 11 (7.45pm) before welcoming Azerbaijan to Ashton Gate on Tuesday, October 15 (7.30pm).

The young Lions currently sit in second position of Group F, five points behind leaders Ukraine, with the three best second-placed teams from across the nine groups guaranteeing automatic qualification for the tournament.

Having made his England under-21's debut as recently as September, in a 4-1 win over Austria at Kenilworth Road, Hinshelwood has been rewarded for his recent efforts with another call-up to international duty.

Hinshelwood has made six appearances so far this season for Brighton & Hove Albion, scoring once in a 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest, a match which was watched by York boss Adam Hinshelwood along with the rest of his family.

The 19-year-old has become a regular started under Seagulls manager Fabian Hurzeler, with Brighton currently occupying ninth position after six matches.

City gaffer Adam Hinshelwood had previously spoken on his pride for his son, saying: “I’m really pleased that he has adopted that kind of mindset and mentality, that’s the kind of mindset and mentality that I want our players to adopt.

“I’m really pleased with his attitude and his mindset and everything that he has got.

“He’s a player that is just happy to be out on the pitch and playing, doing the job for the team.”

Joining Jack on international duty will also be York-raised defender Charlie Cresswell, who is now playing his football in France.

Cresswell followed in the footsteps of his father and former City striker, Richard, in venturing into professional football.

After making his Leeds United debut in September 2020, Cresswell would go on to enjoy a fruitful loan spell in the Sky Bet Championship will Milwall, returning to his parent club with the hopes of solidifying a first-team spot after United's relegation from the Premier League.

However, after finding game time limited in the second tier, Cresswell opted to make the move into France with Toulouse to continue his career.

Cresswell has made five appearances for Toulouse so far this season, earning a call-up to the Three Lions squad.
