TADCASTER Albion continued their inconsistent start to the season on Saturday with a 2-0 defeat away at Rossington Main.

A heated affair prevented either side from building much momentum, but Tadcaster were unravelled by a Mason Wilson own goal in the first-half, before a late winner by substitute Ashley Worsfeld sealed the three points for the Colliery.

Albion will be frustrated that they weren’t able to capitalise on their early chances. Ethan Kachosa continued to impress and looked hungry from the kick-off, creating a key chance for Elliot Andrew within the first two minutes, but it was a let off for Rossington as the forward’s struck the ball directly at Shay Buxton.

Luca Bolino also came close to opening the scoring with a shot across goal which Buxton knocked out for a corner.

Rossington, however, showcased early warning signs of what was to come; On 7 minutes, Ross Hannah rattled the crossbar with an audacious effort from a free-kick, before having a penalty shout denied after being clattered by Sam Green in the box, to the anger of the home faithful.

Tadcaster’s best move of the half occurred on 21 minutes when Bolino muscled out defender Paul Sherburn just inside the final third, before playing a perfectly timed lobbed ball to Kachosa, who attempted to chip the keeper but was denied by a spectacular reflex save to keep the scores level.

Sam Kitchen went close from Ben Tweed’s free kick just before the half hour.

Rossington soon got their act together and began to create some opportunities of their own, giving the match an aura of unpredictability as both sides looked like they would inevitably score.

An own-goal broke the deadlock 24 minutes in - Lewis Graham went for an outside the boot curler which bounced off Wilson and into the net.

The goal ignited confidence in the home side, who, after a long break for an injury, started to have much of the ball, but the Brewers relentless pressing and strong defence prevented the home side from getting another direct effort on goal in the first half.

Tadcaster aimed to right the wrongs of the first-half, and it was one way traffic for much of the last 45.

However, they struggled to deal with Rossington’s counter-attacking set-up as the home side successfully dropped deep whilst out of possession before pushing forward as a team once they regained possession.

Kitchen’s through ball found Andrew but the shot was wide, whilst on 55 minutes Fatlum Ibrahimi’s drive to the corner of the goal brought out a good save from the goalkeeper.

Manager Mick O’Connell made several changes, starting on 68 minutes with Shaun Hudson replacing Bolino and Kieran Greenway on for Ibrahimi, but still the Brewers struggled to create serious chances despite dominating in possession.

On 76 minutes, Raeece Ellington replaced Kitchen whilst Albert Ibrahimi took over from Andrew.

With Tad now dominating possession it looked as though they might get an equaliser in the final minutes . Greenway’s curler was oh so close but just over the bar but they could not find a way through despite a flurry of crosses into the box from free kicks and a late penalty claim which was denied.

The final late substitution for the Brewers saw Elliot Holmes replace Josh Hardcastle.

However, a counter attack by the home side in added time led to Worsfold putting the ball through Green’s legs before finishing with his left foot to send the home crowd into jubilation.

Tadcaster are next in action on Friday evening when welcoming Campion to the Young Guns Arena (7.45pm).
