EMILY SENIOR expressed her excitement after being named the new manager of York City Ladies.
Senior was confirmed as the new manager of York on Wednesday evening, replacing Chris Holloway who left the club due to personal reasons the week prior.
The new City boss arrived after a spell with Bradford City Women, bringing Paula Crowther with her as assistant manager, and will take charge of her first match on Sunday, October 13 against Fleetwood Town Wrens in the Adobe Women's FA Cup at the York Sport Arena (3pm).
Senior told club media: "I'm really excited, it's an exciting prospect and is something that I am really looking forward to being a part of.
"Obviously, the girls have put themselves really in the mix and it's wide open this year so I am really excited to get stuck into it.
"I've been exploring options since I left my role at Bradford City, I've been waiting for the right opportunity and this really feels like that.
"It feels like everything is aligned and is in the right place, there are some really good people that I have had great conversations with behind-the-scenes and there are some great players here that have really exciting potential.
"I want to be a part of that, I want to be a part of the journey and get to the next level.
"It feels like the perfect time. Every manager ideally wants to come in at pre-season and wants to shape things that way, but it doesn't always work out with timing in football.
"This feels like a good time, a fresh time, and like I say, the league right now is wide open and we've got a real opportunity here to disrupt and put our own stamp on it."
Senior reflected on her spell with Bradford, where the Bantams remained unbeaten throughout 2024 with her at the helm, before her departure in the off-season.
"My time at Bradford City was brilliant, what we did on the pitch we were really proud of," Senior continued.
"This is a fresh challenge, this is brand new and is something that is completely different.
"We're in a different kind of position to what Bradford City were in when I went in there.
"I'm excited, I was excited at the prospect of what we could have done at Bradford City and we managed to achieve a lot of what we wanted to do.
"I really want to do that here, I want to achieve some ambitious goals that I think the club have got, and I think that we can do that.
Senior arrives to the Minsterbelles with Crowther by her side as assistant manager, but has wider plans to expand the backroom staff moving forward.
"I've brought Paula Crowther in with me, who is going to be my assistant this year.
"I'm really excited to be working with Paula, we've worked together in a different capacity as well and have a really good relationship.
"We've got a few other potential avenues that we are looking at, in terms of the backroom team.
"That's something else that has been really appealing to me about the role, that we can shape what this backroom team looks like and help the girls with the off-the-pitch stuff as much as we do with the on-the-pitch stuff.
"It's an exciting time, I'm really looking forward to it."
Senior ended her first chat as York manager with a message to supporters:"First of all, I am really excited to meet everybody and I am really excited to be in the dugout.
"I've heard brilliant things, I'm excited to hopefully bring some pride and some passion to the role and to show that on the pitch as well."
