YORK City are continuing to monitor potential transfer targets to help solidify their status as promotion challengers in the Vanarama National League.

A positive start to the season has seen York soar to third position in the fifth tier, having suffered just one defeat all campaign.

However, a run of just one victory in their last four has seen the York coaching team consider looking towards the transfer market, with assistant manager Gary Elphick providing an update.

“It’s been quite a pivotal day today [Wednesday], we have targeted quite a few players and know that Lenny [Lenell John-Lewis] could be out for a sustained period of time," Elphick elucidated.

“There is hopefully something there that will come to fruition in the following week, hopefully after this weekend.

“It depends what player it will be.

“There’s a few options on the table, it’s just up to us now as the management staff.

“Tony McMahon is now our Director of Football and has identified one for how our team plays, so we’ve got to get the right string for our team.”

Elphick confirmed that the club are looking at both short-term and longer-term options, and also that the management team has to make sure that the player is the right fit for York.

He continued: “There’s one in mind that could be more short-term, probably for just a month to get us through and then be open to extension after that.

“Maybe there’s some other senior players that could come in longer term if needed.

“We can’t rush, we have to get these things right and we have to bring the right characters into the building as well.

“It needs to be right for both the player and the club.”
