REPORTS have linked York City with a Leeds United youngster.

Reported by Football Insider, Leeds United youngster Luca Thomas could be subject to a loan move to York.

Manager Adam Hinshelwood had been open on City’s hopes to bolster their attacking ranks after a goalless draw with Eastleigh, whilst assistant manager Gary Elphick confirmed that the club were hopeful of bringing a new face in during the next week.

A hamstring injury to top scorer Lenell John-Lewis, sustained during a behind-closed-doors friendly with Hull City, means that York’s options have become limited in the forward line, with Hinshelwood confirming after City’s 3-1 Emirates FA Cup victory at Biggleswade FC that the striker would likely be out for up to two months.

John-Lewis’ setback means that York only have Ollie Pearce and Dipo Akinyemi available as recognised strikers, with youngster Alex Hernandez believed to be set for a spell in the academy or in a loan move to gain regular first-team minutes.

Thomas, who can play wide and through the centre, has enjoyed a productive start to the 2024/25 season with Leeds’ under-21’s, scoring six goals in five matches as well as one assist, before agreeing terms on a new contract with the Sky Bet Championship side.

He was also chosen by manager Daniel Farke to travel with the first-team squad in a training camp to Germany during the Summer, and won the under-21's Player of the Month award for August.

Leeds are reportedly hoping that Thomas can gain valuable first-team opportunities on loan to help with his development.

Football Insider are also reporting that the loan deal would only be short-term until December, allowing potential EFL interest in the January transfer window.

Thomas, 20, joined Leeds in 2020 from Manchester City’s academy and is believed to have a bright future with the Whites, being highly-rated by first-team manager Farke.
