ADAM HINSHELWOOD reacted to York City’s Emirates FA Cup first round draw, with a trip to his former club Wycombe Wanderers scheduled.
After overcoming the challenge of Biggleswade FC on Saturday, York were drawn with Sky Bet League One high-fliers Wycombe, who occupy fifth position in the third tier after nine matches.
It will be a trip down memory lane for York manager Hinshelwood, who ended his playing career with Wycombe in 2010, after making 13 appearances but struggling with injury.
Hinshelwood is excited to be returning to his former employers, but iterated that the club must focus on their next three Vanarama National League fixtures before planning any upsets in the FA Cup.
“It’s a very tough game, but an unbelievable club,” Hinshelwood enthused.
“I was only there for a short spell of my career, only towards the end, but I have some real fond memories of an amazing football club.
“It’s a football club that couldn’t do enough for you as a player, so we’re looking forward to going back and experience a matchday at Adams Park.
“A very tough game, it’ll be good to see a good away end at Adams Park and to have that packed out with red will be amazing to see.
“It’s one where the pressure is off of us a little bit, we can go and enjoy ourselves.
“It’s one where we can really test ourselves with really good opposition, they don’t come much tougher in terms of draws at this stage.
“They are a League One club that are very good at home, and I know that Blooms will have his team ready to go.
“There are some real tough games before then, so that’s got to be our full focus.
“It’s something to look forward to in a couple of weeks time, but no more than that.
“We’ve got to focus firstly on a real tough game against Ebbsfleet on Saturday, and back-to-back home games from Saturday to Tuesday.
“First and foremost, a real big game on Saturday.”
A brace from Ollie Pearce, paired by Dipo Akinyemi’s first goal of the season, saw York advance past Biggleswade in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round on Saturday.
Despite the difference in the footballing pyramid between the two sides, Hinshelwood has still been able to learn lessons from the Biggleswade match.
He told the Press: “There are still loads that you can take from it.
“The disappointing thing for me was that we were comfortable in a lot possession, and that’s not taking anything away from Biggleswade, they certainly caused us problems on the day and scored an unbelievable goal.
“We need to get out of that mindset that just doing enough in games is enough, that it’s good enough to beat an opposition.
“We want to keep our standards and our intensity, that was the message this week.
“Like all forward players, goals and assists really help them [Pearce and Akinyemi] settle a lot and it will do their confidence wonders, I’m sure.
“It’s an area of the pitch where I feel that we have got some real talented players, we want them all to be confident and playing to the best of their ability.
“If we can do that with the forward players that we have got, then we’ll know that we’ve got some confidence in us.”
