ADAM HINSHELWOOD felt that the York City supporters contributed to a memorable night at the LNER Community Stadium with a 3-1 victory over Barnet.

After Baily Hobson had put Barnet ahead, injuries to both Callum Harriott and Dipo Akinyemi sent York into adversity against the leaders in the Vanarama National League.

City responded magnificently, with Marvin Armstrong bundling the ball over the line in first-half stoppage-time, before a quickfire double from Alex Hunt and Ollie Pearce wrapped up a fantastic three points.

A highest home attendance of the season so far helped pull York over the line, with Hinshelwood complimentary of the support and revealing hopes of one day filling the North Stand similarly to the South.

“I’m really pleased, the last two performances have had seven goals with two really big crowds here,” Hinshelwood enthused.

“Giving them something to cheer is really important to us, we are a one City club and if we can get this City pulling with us, it can have a real impact like it has tonight.

“I don’t think there is any coincidence that five out of the seven goals have been scored down that end [the South Stand], where our fans are.

“They are cheering us on and it does have an impact on the players, they probably press a little bit harder and it’s great to see.

“We want the other end to start getting filled now, that’s our challenge as a club.

“It would be great to have both ends of the ground to have City fans behind it, it’s down to us to carry on delivering and to keep on improving.”

Hinshelwood would go on to respond to York’s rise into second position in the National League table, with Forest Green Rovers emerging as 3-1 winners over bottom of the league Ebbsfleet United.

The City boss hopes that his side can maintain their high position come the end of the season, whilst remaining aware that there is still plenty of football still to be played.

“Dean [Brennan, Barnet manager] is a very experienced manager, he has been working on his team and has got a very good squad of players together.

“I’ve said it but we are quite early in our process, so the fact that we are able to compete and put on a good performance against them today shows how far we have come.

“It’s 15 games in, we can’t get carried away.

“If we’re still in this same position where we are competing with Barnet and Forest Green at the end of April, then things will look a little bit different.

“Up until then, there is still so much football to be played and so much improvement for us to make as well.”

Two casualties from the York victory over Barnet were Harriott and Akinyemi, with Hinshelwood providing an update on the duo as well as Armstrong, who struggled with cramp at the end of the match.

“He just felt his calf tighten up a little bit, did Callum Harriott.

“I don’t know if it was a kick, but he’s just got a bit of a graze on the back of his leg.

“It might just be an impact one.

“Dipo is just a back spasm, he couldn’t really feel much movement in his left leg but that has eased off now.

“I think that it is something he has struggled with before, so we’re hoping that it’s nothing too sinister with the pair of them.

“With Marvin, it was just a case of cramping up at the end with the effort he put in.

“We’re hoping it’s nothing too sinister with those players, but we’ve got a great squad here, as proven again tonight.”
