ADAM HINSHELWOOD reflected on York City's 2-1 win over FC Halifax Town on Saturday, and announced his pride in the spirit shown by the squad.
Jamie Cooke had put Halifax ahead on the counter-attack in the first-half, with the hosts enjoying a period of domination in the second 45 that made York look bound for a first defeat in two months.
However, City showed their togetherness as both Malachi Fagan-Walcott and Ollie Pearce struck in stoppage-time to turn the match on its head; and earn the Minstermen three crucial points.
Hinshelwood was delighted with the character shown by his group of players after enduring a period of domination from Halifax, and admitted that his side were 'sloppy' at times.
“We talk about how we want to control, we want to have possession and play pretty football," Hinshelwood told the Press.
"Ultimately, you need that grit, that togetherness and the determination to win games of football.
"For the lads to show that and win another way, we probably had chances in the first-half and didn’t take them, it looked like the game was getting away from us.
"We battled back and showed real resolve.

"To have that in the group and have that in your armour, it’s probably more important than anything.
"When you’re not at your best, you have got to keep going and show another side of how to win a game of football.
"That side of it was really pleasing, we’re going to have games where we don’t have control but there hasn’t been too many times this season where I’ve watched a York team play and felt that we haven’t controlled it.
"That’s not bad for 16 games, obviously there are areas that we can improve on, we were sloppy at times.
"In the main, you’ve got to give credit to the players because they have found a way to win a game of football."
Hinshelwood was pleased with the performance on the whole, particularly the first-half, and felt that the final result was a testament to how the club has progressed since his initial arrival in February.
“I thought it was a good performance.
"The first-half was very good, they probably had one clear cut chance and we had a few. In the second-half, a lot got made of them but that was just our sloppy play really.
"They changed their shape slightly and for all the chances that they had, I thought that Harrison [Male] was relatively comfortable with the chances.
"Malachi probably had the best chance of the half.
"Again, it’s a testament of how far the club has come.
"It’s one half where we didn’t have control, which is more down to us being a bit sloppy and we looked a bit tired, we probably didn’t have the squad and the changes to adapt to that on the day."
