FOOTBALLING icon Robbie Keane once scored an incredible goal to send Adam Hinshelwood and Brighton & Hove Albion out of the Emirates FA Cup, on the day of the York City manager’s 21st birthday.

The opportunity to play at Tottenham’s former stadium, White Hart Lane, was an experience that Hinshelwood will never forget, as well as playing against the likes of Keane, Jermaine Defoe, Michael Carrick and Ledley King.

It is the magic of the FA Cup, something that Hinshelwood hope his York side can emulate when facing Sky Bet League One high-fliers Wycombe Wanderers tomorrow afternoon (3pm) at Adams Park.

Speaking to the Press, Hinshelwood looked back upon his FA Cup memories, which included an 8-0 victory over Northwich Victoria in 2006.

He reflected: “I remember a big win for Brighton, I think it was six or seven against Northwich Victoria.

“That was really quite special.

“On my 21st birthday, we played at White Hart Lane which was really special, a few moons ago though now so it’s hard to remember it!

“We managed to take them and then Robbie Keane popped up with a worldie of a goal on the day, but obviously there were some great memories playing against Spurs in the third round, and a big following from Brighton.

“There are a few nice memories, and on that day, similar to what we need on Saturday, you need a little bit of luck and a Robbie Keane shot to not fly into the top corner but to fly just over!

“Once that happens, you’re in the game, and we’re going to need that little bit of luck on Saturday.

“There will be an upset, no doubt about it this weekend, and we’re hoping that that can be us.”

City defeated lower league Biggleswade FC in the fourth preliminary round, but their entry into the first round is arguably dainted by the removal of replays, if the first match should end in a draw.

Hinshelwood gave his opinion on the FA’s decision to remove replays, admitting that it was more ‘guided’ towards the Premier League clubs involved, with Saturday’s match heading to extra time and penalties, should it end all even after 90 minutes.

He added: “I think it’s a bit more guided towards the Premier League clubs and their fixture schedule, but it is full on for them.

“Their players go straight from having an international break, but the top players are playing twice a week there as well.

“It is full on for their schedule, but we would have all loved to have had a replay if we were to draw against Wycombe and bring them back here.

“It’s not to be, so we can’t worry too much about it and just control what we can control.

“It’s above my head trying to get involved with replays in the FA Cup unfortunately.”
