YORK City winger Maziar Kouhyar has been called up for international duty with Afghanistan.

Kouhyar, who is playing on-loan at Kidderminster Harriers for the 2024/25 season, missed a match against South Shields on Tuesday night in the National League North.

Kidderminster went on to convincingly win 4-0 against the North-East outfit, thanks to goals from Amari Morgan-Smith, Tope Obadeyi, Joe Foulkes and Ashley Hemmings.

Kouhyar will take part in matches against Nepal on Saturday, November 16 (1pm) and against Tajikistan on Tuesday, November 19 (1pm), adding to his ten senior appearances for his country.

Having made his international debut in 2017, the 27-year-old became the first Afghan international to play professionally in Great Britain, whilst representing Walsall in the Football League.

His debut came in a friendly match against Oman, which Afghanistan lost 2-0, and also represented the under-23's side when scoring in a 3-0 victory over Kuwait under-23's in March 2022.

Kouhyar has enjoyed his spell on-loan at Kidderminster so far, having registered seven goal contributions in 16 matches for the sixth tier side so far.

The City loanee joins his Kidderminster teammate Maliq Cadogan in earning international caps, with the latter representing Guyana, who are set to play Barbados twice in the space of five days.
