ADAM HINSHELWOOD was pleased by how his side rallied in their 5-3 victory over Hartlepool United on Saturday.
After heading into half-time with a relatively comfortable 2-0 lead, York were largely under the cosh for early periods in the second-half, in which Hartlepool halved the deficit.
A thunderous strike from Ashley Nathaniel-George provided some needed comfort for City, with Hinshelwood impressed by how his side coped with relentless Hartlepool momentum.
“We’ll give the opponent some respect as well, they made it difficult for us and got a bit of momentum in front of their fans in the second-half as well,” Hinshelwood told BBC York.
“For large parts, I thought that the first-half an hour was some really good stuff, we could have been further ahead than 2-0 at the break.
“It’s a funny scoreline at half-time, is 2-0, whatever team gets the next goal can take momentum from it.
“We rallied well from after that and we responded well, I’m just disappointed with the manner of the last two goals.
“We’ve looked at it, we’ve analysed it and have seen what we can improve on.”
When Hinshelwood initially arrived to York from Worthing, he came with expectations of high-scoring, entertaining matches.
The boss laughed that Saturday’s match was certainly one of those, and that it was one that he enjoyed after having the opportunity to catch-up with friends following the full-time whistle.
“It was an entertaining game and I enjoyed it, like I said, I enjoyed large parts of our game.
“They would have enjoyed moments that they had as well, after half-time and in front of their fans, they made it really difficult for us to get out and they got a goal and got some momentum.
“There were some hairy moments that could have made it 2-2 and Harrison [Male] made an unbelievable save at 1-0 again.
“There are moments in games that have gone our way definitely, but the lads kept going and to get five goals at home is always pleasing.
“I certainly did [enjoy the weekend], I had a few friends that were up so we went into York and watched the Brighton game.
“I certainly enjoyed it after a very good result.”
