ADAM HINSHELWOOD expects Cameron John to be out of action for six to eight weeks after a suspected tear to his hamstring.

The York City left-back was a casualty in the Minstermen’s 2-0 defeat to Forest Green Rovers on Saturday, with John being substituted in the first-half for debutant Jeff King.

Hinshelwood admitted after the match that he had fears of John’s injury, which will be confirmed today [Thursday] with a scan set to take place.

“The initial signs of him, without him having a scan, show that it will be a six to eight week injury,” Hinshelwood told the Press.

“It’s a tear quite high up in his hamstring.

“It’s quite a disappointing one, and one that we will have to deal with.

“It’s a shame, whenever he seems to get himself in a good position and has a good run of games, he seems to pick up an injury at the moment.

“We’re obviously disappointed for him, but with that it gives opportunities to other players.”

Hinshelwood hopes that John’s forced absence could become a window of opportunity to Adam Crookes, who has recently returned from a long-term injury.

Crookes has been earning regular minutes in behind-closed-doors friendlies for York, as well as earning minutes against both FC Halifax Town and Wycombe Wanderers in competitive football.

“He’s done well when he’s come back, he’s only had 45 minutes for us so far in first-team action.

“He got an hour in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Doncaster the other week, but he’ll be keen to get some regular game time now with Cam John’s injured.

“It’s likely that could happen.”

Hinshelwood also provided an update on Callum Howe, who, having not missed a minute of football yet this season, is a doubt for Saturday.

The centre-back suffered a slight calf injury which was sustained in the Forest Green game, but the City boss is hopeful that his captain will be available to face Yeovil Town.

“The only one who is a slight concern is Callum Howe,” Hinshelwood told BBC York.

“He got a kick on his calf, so we’re ruling out that it’s not a tear, but he was back doing some running with Lenny [Lenell John-Lewis] today.

“We’re hoping that other than Cam John, everyone else will be fully fit.”

York will continue to be without Callum Harriott, Lenell John-Lewis, George Sykes-Kenworthy and Darragh O’Connor, with the latter two suffering setbacks in their recoveries from injury.

The boss told BBC York: “Len’s in a good place, he’s back running on the grass and is getting his boots on, so that’s really big for him.

“Darragh had a bit of a setback, but nothing too strenuous we don’t think.

“He’s had his boots back on and has done a bit of running, but just got a bit of aggravation, so he shouldn’t be too bad.

“Zanda [Siziba], Alex Hernandez are back running and should be able to get training back into them very soon.”

On Harriott and Sykes-Kenworthy, Hinshelwood told the Press: “He’s [Sykes-Kenworthy] had a bit of an aggravation in his rehab, so he’s probably going to need an ultrasound scan and an injection, just to help things along with him.

“It’s obviously disappointing, but we want to speed up his recovery and get him back online and back on schedule.

“He’s [Harriott] still with his wife and his family, they’ve got a situation where he needs to be at home with the family at the moment, so he’ll be missing.”
