YORK City supporter Morgan Bruce previews the Minstermen's upcoming match with Yeovil Town.

This weekend, York City return home to the LNER Community Stadium as they look to bounce back from last weekend’s loss in Gloucestershire, to fellow title challengers Forest Green Rovers.

Last week’s loss was disappointing as it was only the Minstermen’s second loss of the season, and it was the first league loss since the August Bank Holiday home defeat to the newly promoted Boston United.

It was also disappointing as it ended a run of 12 games unbeaten in the league which was the best unbeaten run across the top five divisions in the English football pyramid.

Manager Adam Hinshelwood deserves major credit for this season as he has got York into a position where they are in a very competitive title challenge at the top of the National League, against the aforementioned Forest Green, perennial play-off contenders Barnet and big-spending Oldham Athletic.

This comes after the last decade of struggles for York, including relegation to the sixth tier where they spent five seasons from 2017 to 2022 before what seemed to be a miraculous promotion back to the National League.

Therefore, this weekend, York will be looking to get back on track as they look to start another run of 12 games unbeaten.

There is no better way to do this than being back in front of the home fans, who so far this season have played an essential part as the 12th man for York.

The opposition this weekend is the newly promoted Yeovil Town.

Yeovil have had a rollercoaster last few years including relegation to the National League South after involvement from now York owner Matt Uggla, which didn’t pan out in the way that they had hoped, before bouncing back by winning the National League South title with a comfortable nine-point margin.

Yeovil themselves are having a very strong season as they find themselves in eighth place and only a point outside the playoff places, which is by far the best start to the season by any of the four newly promoted sides this season.

This is down to the experience and expertise of manager Mark Cooper who knows this division incredibly well and therefore has been able to grind out results to boost them up the table.

They will be very tough to beat as they have the joint second-best defensive record only behind York and Forest Green as they have only conceded 16 goals so far this year, level with Halifax, and also have the second-best away record so far this year as they have accumulated 17 points from nine games on the road, which again is only behind Forest Green’s away record.

Overall I think this is a perfect chance for York to look to bounce back.

However, the task will not be easy as Mark Cooper will bring his side to North Yorkshire with a plan of how to be hard to break down while looking to hit York on the counter attack.
