ADAM HINSHELWOOD reflected on the 4-0 thrashing of Yeovil Town on Saturday as his York City side returned to the summit of the National League.
A sensational hat-trick from Ollie Pearce, added to by a powerful strike from Tyrese Sinclair, piled on the misery for Yeovil after Mark Cooper’s men were reduced to ten-men in the tenth minute, and nine-men in the 90th minute.
Hinshelwood was pleased with the timing in which his side scored, in particular with Pearce’s opener after Finn Cousin-Dawson had been shown a straight red card seconds prior, as well as Sinclair’s effort on the brink of half-time.
“It was nice, I had some family up again, so it was really nice,” A happy Hinshelwood stated.
“Obviously we enjoyed it a bit more after a win than the previous Saturday, so it was good.
“We’ve always got to enjoy winning games of football.
“It’s always a difficult one when you play against ten men, but I think scoring when their player got sent off was a double blow for them.
“Then obviously getting the second goal just before half-time always really helps us.
“I’m really pleased with the lads’ application in the second-half, I thought that we stuck to our structure that we wanted to play to really well, we stuck to our game plan.
"All in all, it was a good afternoon.

“Those games can be tricky, we scored at good times and I thought that was the key to us making it look like an impressive scoreline.
“I’ve seen that in training, it was a good training week and we’ve got a good group together.
“It’s easy to get that when you’re winning games of football and that becomes the norm, it’s easy to keep everyone together when that’s happening.
“It’s always that the biggest test to that will come when you suffer a defeat, so for the lads to respond like they did in the week with training and to put it into practice in the game was really pleasing.
“It’s not something we’ve become used to, and it’s not something we want to become used to, but it was a good response and the application was really good, especially in the second-half.”
After Pearce’s hat-trick took the City forward to joint-top in the National League scoring charts, the striker has been receiving deserved plaudits on social media, with Hinshelwood himself previously doling out the praise.
But Hinshelwood also took the time to credit the defensive solidity his side demonstrated when facing the odd Yeovil attack, which included Adam Crookes at left-back, earning a first competitive 90 minutes since the final day of the 2023/24 season.
Hinshelwood admitted to the Press: “They were [superb], we’ve got a really solid base and we’re proud of the clean sheets that we have got.
“We’re proud of our defensive record and it’s something that we want to continue with.
“When you win 4-0 and someone scores a hat-trick, a lot of the plaudits go that way, but it’s a team game.
“Harrison [Male] made a bit of a mistake again Forest Green and then replied with a clean sheet, so I’m really pleased with him.
“He [Crookes] was a little bit more aggressive, defended well and everything that he had to do he did well.
“I’m really pleased with his performance, we just want to now keep him fit.
“I think it’s his first 90 minutes since Spennymoor in pre-season, so we’ve got to be careful because we want Crookesy to be available for us for a lot more games between now and the end of the season.”
