ADAM HINSHELWOOD responded to the reports that York City had agreed a fee with Cardiff City for the permanent transfer of Malachi Fagan-Walcott.

As reported by the Press on Monday evening, York have shown an interest in making the loan stay of Fagan-Walcott into a permanent stay, with reports from Football Insider suggesting that a fee had already been agreed.

Hinshelwood confirmed to the Press that the two clubs were in talks to make Fagan-Walcott a permanent addition to the York squad, and admitted that he was keen for the centre-back to extend his stay in North Yorkshire.

However, Hinshelwood did confirm that ‘the finer details’ were yet to be agreed, but that ongoing talks were progressing between the two clubs.

“I think we are in talks,” Hinshelwood confirmed.

“We’re keen for Malachi to be a York player permanently, he’s been a really big signing for us, he’s 22-years-old and has got so much ability.

“It’s just a case of trying to agree a fee with Cardiff and seeing if that is possible to do.

“Those sorts of talks are happening, and the finer details have not been agreed yet.

“But I do believe that the talks are going well.”

With talks ongoing to turn Fagan-Walcott’s loan move into a permanent switch, Hinshelwood admitted that it is something the club and he considers when bringing players in on loan.

The boss always considers a potential long-term future with the club, confirming that the thought was always in the back of his mind.

“I always like to think that there is a potential of signing players [permanently] and that we’re not just doing another team a favour by playing their players.

“It’s always in the back of my mind, the potential of signing a player permanently.”
