JOE FELIX ran out of words to describe the recent performances of fellow York City teammate Ollie Pearce after another brace in Saturday’s 6-2 win over Maidenhead United.
Pearce will have had Felix to thank for his and York’s first of the afternoon, after a slick move allowed the full-back to deliver a teasing ball into the area, which Pearce converted with a pinpoint header.
It’s nothing new for the duo, having established a similar partnership in the National League South last season at Worthing, with Felix now happy that it’s City reaping the rewards at the top of the National League table.
“It was a good performance, I thought that the first-half especially was really good,” Felix told BBC York.
“We’re just disappointed that we conceded two, but I felt that it was a good team performance today.
“I’ve been trying to get in those areas higher up in the pitch, and that’s what the gaffer has been wanting me to do.
“There’s still a lot that I need to improve on as well, but I’m happy with the assist today.
“It was a good ball to be fair, when I’m in the right position and am in that position there, the only think I’m looking for is just a player in the box.

“I saw Ollie at the back post and it was a good ball.
“Ollie Pearce, there’s not much I can say about him, he’s something else.
“He’s scoring goals, he’s always in the right areas and I’m grateful that I get to play with Ollie Pearce again this season.
“I’m sure that there’s a lot more to come from him.
“We linked up really well and we have that connection, but at the same time, he’s on another level.
“I’m just happy I get to be on the pitch with him. It just shows his mentality, his mindset is always to go out and get as much goals as he can.”
Pearce’s brace, alongside strikes by Tyrese Sinclair, Ashley Nathaniel-George, Adam Crookes and Luca Thomas, sent York back to the top of the National League after Barnet drew 0-0 at Hartlepool United, and Forest Green Rovers were not in action.
A big reason behind City’s return to the summit has been their recent home form, having lost once on home soil all season, and scoring an incredible 22 goals in their last five matches at the LNER Community Stadium.
The 6-2 win was also vital to Felix and his teammates after the midweek 3-0 defeat at Altrincham, with the defender feeling as if a response was needed.
Felix added: “It’s been really good, especially scoring goals at home, it’s been really good.
“We just have to keep going and check game by game, we need to keep pushing on now and onto the next, which has been really good.
“It was really good to bounce back and it just shows the good team.
“I felt like everyone was hungry today and we wanted to make a change from the last game, it really worked out today [Saturday] and we’re really happy with the performance.
“Everyone was disappointed [with the Altrincham match] but that’s part of the game, we showed good character and we had to leave with our heads held high and push on.
“As we did today, we put on a good performance.
“We can only focus on ourselves and that’s taking it game by game, trying to win every game that’s in front of us.
“Right now we’ll focus on ourselves and take it day by day.”
The only downside to an otherwise impeccable display from Felix, was a foul in the York area that forced the referee to point to the spot.
Sam Barratt converted from 12-yards, with Felix admitting that he was disappointed to have been responsible for giving away a penalty kick.
“I tried to get my body across him and I thought that we were shoulder to shoulder, but obviously I wasn’t.
“It’s a tough one and I need to bounce back from it, but hopefully I don’t concede anymore in the future.”
