SELBY Town dropped to a first league defeat in seven for a 3-0 rout against Harrogate Railway.

After an early opener from Sam Clothier for the visitors, an own goal from James Danby and an effort from Ezio de Santis gave Harrogate three points against play-off hopefuls Selby.

The defeat sees Town in eighth position on 33 points, four off of Wakefield within the play-off positions.

Ryan Cooper made one change from their last league match, a win of Glasshoughton, as Liam Love was replaced at left-back by Declan Racher.

Selby had an early strike squandered, before a scuffed clearance saw the loose ball fall to Harris Eggleston.

His cut back into Clothier, who curled an impressive effort into the far corner, beating goalkeeper Liam Wilson.

Town had a free-kick bend narrowly wide, before Eggleston was denied by Wilson with a front post parry.

With over half an hour of the contest played, the Robins succumbed to a second goal, in quite a disappointing fashion.

After pressure from Danny Mutch saw Danby being forced to recycle possession and pass back to his goalkeeper Wilson, there was frustration as the ball bobbled under the shot-stopper's foot, trickling into the back of the net and gifting Harrogate a two goal advantage.

Heading into the second-half, Harry Clapham had a teasing cross which was thwarted by Jamie Hassall in a promising period of pressure from the Robins, before di Santis had a strike sliced narrowly wide for Harrogate.

With 57 minutes played, Harrogate put the game beyond doubt.

Clothier threaded a well-worked pass into the path of an onrushing Eggleston, whose rocket of a strike struck the far post. The loose ball landed at the feet of di Santis, whose rebound made its way through a crowd of bodies before nestling into the back of the net.

Selby needed and looked for an immediate response, but couldn't find their way through some resilient defending from the Railway, with Town also being forced into crucial blocks as the visitors looked to add to their scoreline.

Lucas Umpleby had an effort fired over, before Wilson watched a flick from Charlie Lack scurried wide.

Selby are next in action on this evening when travelling to Wombwell Town in the Northern Counties Eastern League division one (7.45pm).
