ADAM HINSHELWOOD still wants to take York City ‘up a notch’ after another win on Saturday - which took the Minstermen back to the top of the National League.
An eight-goal thriller at the LNER Community Stadium saw York defeat Maidenhead United 6-2, with another impressive display from Hinshelwood’s side.
Despite City enjoying their best-ever start to a season and currently occupying top of the league, Hinshelwood still hopes to raise the standards at the club to maintain their promotion push.
"We’d be lying if we said that we wasn’t enjoying being at this end of the table!” Hinshelwood laughed.
“It’s definitely where we want to be, we want to be competing and I think that it should give us motivation now to work even harder.
“I want everything to go up, the training, the nutrition, everything, our preparation, we want to take it up a notch to be up there competing.
“That’s 21 games and 44 points, we’ve got to now put another run together and look at the next ten or so games to come up with more points.
“We’ve got a nice fixture at home again next week to look forward to, so we want to be competitive in that competition as well.
“It’s all to play for now, we’ve got 20 odd players that are all vying to play, the bench was full of talent today [Saturday] and we want to make sure that everyone’s fighting hard in training and for everything to go up a notch.”
Saturday’s win over Maidenhead also saw York bounce back from their 3-0 defeat to Altrincham in midweek, the fourth time this season that Hinshelwood’s players have avoided potential back-to-back losses.
Hinshelwood believes that the togetherness in his squad is a large factor in that, praising his team’s mentality.
He added: “It says a lot about the players as well and their mentality.
“I’ve spoken a lot about the togetherness they’ve got as a group and I think that shows from when they have faced adversity, not on the right result, they always respond well.
“That’s a testament to the players and their togetherness.”
