YORK City boss Billy McEwan has expressed his fears for the club, its staff and his own future should JM Packaging's proposal to become 75 per cent plus one share majority shareholders of the Minstermen be rejected.

The motion will be voted on at a Supporters' Trust special general meeting on Tuesday and McEwan has called for an end to off-the-field in-fighting and urged all members to consider what is in the best interests of the football club.

McEwan has previously preferred not to comment on the SGM but is now concerned jobs could be lost if members vote No' at the meeting now switched to York's Barbican.

He also believes the proposal from current managing director Jason McGill, who owns JM Packaging, represents the best way forward for the Minstermen.

McEwan said: "For the stability and future of the club, Jason's package has got to be taken on because, if it isn't, I fear for York City. I understand fans not wanting to give up ownership of the club but he has financial clout and, importantly, York City at heart.

"There might be jobs at stake if there are more cutbacks because the proposal is rejected and that does not bear thinking about. Our fans are fantastic and the Trust have done a great job saving the club but it's not easy to keep running it on a shoestring. People haven't got the money or the time.

"No big companies have come forward to offer the kind of money Jason has done and where is it going to come from otherwise? Bills are still coming in and need paying.

"He's prepared to put his money in to help the club. He doesn't have to do that and, if he doesn't, where's York City going to go and where's Billy McEwan going to go because I won't hang around if I haven't got a penny to spend on players. I would have to consider my future if the vote went the other way."

McEwan added that he felt now was a critical time for everybody with an affinity for the club to unite rather than split into warring factions.

He said: "We have got to work together because it's a team effort on and off the pitch. Having different factions falling out with each other isn't good.

"We are not interested in people with egos because this is not about individuals, it's about the future of York City. We want people to put their money where their mouth is and need everybody pulling in the right direction."

McEwan added that City managing director McGill played a key role in convincing him to take the KitKat Crescent job 15 months ago.

He said: "His involvement in the club was a reason why I came to York City.

"I have been impressed with his work for the club, as I have been by the rest of the board.

"His support for the club has been fantastic since I have been here and he's even helped entice players.

"He's a young, forward-thinking managing director who has plans for the future that he wants to implement.

"Jason and his family are York fans through and through, he is prepared to back the club and we need his money behind us."
