YORK City manager Martin Foyle is confident a third summer signing, following the arrivals of Greg Young and Duane Courtney this week, can be concluded on his return from holiday next month.

Said Foyle: “We have virtually agreed terms with a player, but the deal will probably be concluded in the middle of June now.”

He is also planning to run the rule over a young player from Premier League outfit Blackburn Rovers during pre-season.

“We will be looking at someone with the view to taking him on loan if we like what we see, which I think we will,” Foyle revealed. “He’s a player I have looked at for the last six or eight months.

“He’s been to one or two other clubs before because Blackburn have a lot of young players coming through.”

Rovers’ goalkeeper Frank Fielding and midfielder Andrew Haworth both ended last season on loan at promoted League Two side Rochdale, while defender Gavin Gunning and forward Marcus Marshall will be part of Rotherham’s play-off final squad facing Dagenham and Redbridge on Sunday.

Irish midfielder Aaron Doran was also loaned out of Ewood Park to League One pair MK Dons and Leyton Orient last season.

Foyle confirmed he will be looking for a new reserve ’keeper after releasing Josh Mimms. He added: “We have two or three in mind that we are hoping to look at during pre-season.”

But City’s friendly at home to Oldham, scheduled for July 24, has been cancelled with the Lancastrians now unable to fulfil the fixture.

Foyle is hoping to arrange another game on that date, saying: “It’s a bit of a pain but we might try and fit Leeds in there now. If they can’t make it, we will find somebody else.”
