PANNAL GC pair Jonathan Honeysett and professional Dave Padgett are confident they will not ‘freeze’ in the Bahamas sunshine when they compete in the Virgin Atlantic PGA National Pro-Am Championship final this month.
The pair next week jet off to the luxurious Sandals Emerald Bay Resort for a week, with the 36-hole tournament being staged over the Greg Norman-designed Emerald Reef GC on November 27 and 28.
Padgett and banker Honeysett, from Harrogate, won the qualifier at York’s Fulford GC in June to earn a place in the 16-team final, where a £5,000 first prize is on offer to the winning professional.
Praising his playing partner, Padgett said: “The important thing about this event is that you have an amateur you can rely on.
“You need them to chip in when it comes to this sort of event. If they can hole a nett eagle then it can make all the difference.
“Jonathan’s got a five handicap so he knows what he’s doing and has obviously played with professionals before.”
Making his debut in the final, Padgett added: “It’s impossible to say how big an event it’ll be for me until afterwards when I see how we’ve done.
“But it’s good publicity for the club and it’ll be even better if we come back with a pot of gold.”
