YORK City manager Gary Mills takes his team to Kidderminster tonight (7.45pm) with no concerns over player fatigue following Saturday’s superb ten-man effort against Ebbsfleet.

The Minstermen were forced to play a man short for 75 minutes during the 3-2 win over the Kent club after Scott Brown’s early dismissal.

Mills’ team also face a three-hour coach journey prior to this evening’s Aggborough clash but the City boss believes his squad’s high fitness levels mean tired legs will not be a factor in the meeting of two promotion contenders.

He said: “I think my players will be fine after Saturday. There certainly won’t be anybody looking to sit out another massive game and the strength we will have taken from that victory will go a long way.

“We didn’t do an abundance of training yesterday and we are a fit side. We’ve worked hard on that from day one.

“I have a great set of players who look after themselves. In fact, rather than asking them to do more work, I have to do the opposite and tell them when enough’s enough.”

With Brown beginning a three-game suspension, Mills will need to make at least one change to his starting line-up but would not confirm whether Andre Boucaud will be handed a recall after failing to feature in any of City’s last three matches having been the subject of a transfer bid from top-five rivals Fleetwood.

The Bootham Crescent chief added: “Everybody is in contention because we have Pottsy, Adriano Moké and Andre who can play there, so I have a few options. Somebody is in line to come back in and I know who that is.

“I know what my team will be and how I want to play and whoever gets selected will have a point to prove, but every player does in every game whether they’ve been in the team or out of it. You should want to keep the shirt – that’s only natural for footballers.”

When asked whether Trinidad & Tobago international Boucaud would be staying beyond the closing of the transfer window at the end of this month, Mills said: “Fleetwood have not come back to me so that matter looks dead and buried now.”

Mills also admitted that, as well as contesting a crucial three points, his side have a score to settle tonight with Kidderminster the only team to beat City in 17 league matches following last month’s 3-2 home defeat.

“Our home performance against Kidderminster, particularly in the first half, wasn’t good enough,” he admitted. “We never concede three goals in the first half so that showed how poor we were on the night.

“We want to put that right but it’s also a massive game with both teams being on the same number of points.

“I want everybody in the football club to have the same mindset – we are going there knowing we’ve got to get a result.”

Towering striker Jamille Matt was a thorn in City’s side during the last match between the two teams, but Mills insisted he has no special plans to contain the 14-goal marksman.

The City manager believes the Harriers will probably be more concerned about the sensational form of Matty Blair ahead of the prolific winger’s return to his old Aggborough stamping-ground.

Mills said: “I won’t worry about the opposition but, if I was them, I wouldn’t be too sure what to do about Matty Blair.

“It’s a big game for him and, along with a lot of others in the team, he’s been playing superbly.

“We just want to go to Kidderminster now and get a result for him, like we did for Scott Kerr and Paul Musselwhite at Lincoln.”

Top scorer Jason Walker remains the only injury absentee for the Midlands trip.
