Melbourne and Yapham were the only sides to get a game in the Foss Evening Cricket League this past week as steady rain put paid to the other ten scheduled matches.
Melbourne went into the match with a three point lead at the top of division two and thanks to the performances of the Barlow brothers – Liam and Alex – extended that to five.
Liam Barlow made an unbeaten 79, including four sixes, out of Melbourne’s 121-3. He shared stands of 46 with Tim Blackmore (18) and 44 with Oliver Steels.
Alex Barlow (3-26) then took the first three Yapham wickets to fall. Sam Shipley (1-18) and Freddie Collins (1-20) then bowled tidily to put Yapham behind the asking rate.
An unbroken 33-run sixth wicket partnership between Yapham skipper Jack Holman (35no) and Stuart Wainwright (19no) was not enough for their side to avoid defeat by 22 runs.
The rain in the remaining matches means that Woodhouse Grange are still five points clear of their nearest rivals in division one, but have a bye next week.
