Woodhouse Grange are celebrating a hat-trick of Foss Evening Cricket League titles.
The Sutton-on-Derwent side clinched the division one championship with a 24-run win over Wheldrake. James Rudd’s 37 was the mainstay of Woodhouse’s 103-5 and 17-year-old Chris Suddaby then spun them to victory with figures of 3-18 as Wheldrake folded for 79.
Barmby Moor finished in disappointing fashion by having to concede to Heworth due to a lack of players, handing the runners-up spot to the Elmpark Way side. Barmby finished third in a season where they have exceeded expectations. Moor’s Andrew Winn posted the best individual score of the season (93no v Wheldrake) and Jonny Webb’s 5-13 against Melbourne were the best bowling figures.
Youngster Andrew Healey took 4-8 for Stamford Bridge to ensure Melbourne got nowhere near Bridge’s 135-3. Mark Holmes (69) and Dave Chaplin (32) starred for Stamford.
Melbourne’s Matt Beevers (64no) led his side to 87-7.
Relegated Yapham went out with a bang as visitors Dunnington were blown away for 37 in 11.3 overs, Alex Nattrass (4-5) and skipper Jon Flint (4-8) wreaking havoc. Rob Chipps then took 4-20, but Yapham eased home.
The only fixture in division two to survive the weather saw Westow beat Heworth Colts. Pocklington’s withdrawal earlier in the summer has left a vacancy in the league.
