Heworth struck an early blow in the Foss Evening Cricket League championship battle with a seven-wicket win over Woodhouse Grange. Former Heworth all-rounder Tom Quinn made 51 as Woodhouse posted 98-8.
Heworth all-rounder Jack Leaning, aged 16, made 46 and skipper Rich Winterburn hit 29 as Heworth won at a canter.
Barmby Moor are the other first division side with an unblemished record after a victory at Wheldrake. Barmby only mustered 84-7 but this was enough for their bowlers to defend as they came out winners by 12 runs, despite 32 from Wheldrake’s Mike Smales.
Dunnington claimed a seven-wicket win against Stamford Bridge as Jack Bolam (71no) and Adam Sutcliffe (27no) had the answer to Bridge’s 125-2.
Matty Beckett (42no), Andy Fraser (40) and David Chaplin (26no) were Stamford’s main contributors on a batsman’s night at Common Road.
Pocklington lead division two after a nine-wicket victory over The Retreat.
Gareth Fenton (66) made his second half-century in as many weeks to lead The Retreat to 108-5.
Pocklington raced to victory with 39 balls to spare as Adam Thomas (50no) and Huw Attwood (34no) added 72 after the loss of Ed Gallagher (21).
Yapham dished out a heavy beating to Heworth Colts as Tom Connell recorded the summer’s first five-wicket haul, 5-11, to spin out the Colts for just 43. Yapham lost two wickets in chasing their target down in six overs, Will Axup (25no) being the only batsman to prosper.
Londesborough Park restricted Melbourne to 74-7, with Paul Coe’s 21 the solitary riposte, and then eased to a ten-wicket victory with 28 balls to spare. Steve Dawson (40no) and Sam Dodd (23no) were the unbeaten openers.
Westow also recorded a ten-wicket victory when toppling Dunnington Academy in division three. Dunnington posted 108-5 in 18 overs thanks to Danny Gough’s 34.
Westow chased down their target with four overs to spare as Ben Holtby (67no) and Matthew Shipley (33no) shared a century partnership.
Stockton & Hopgrove are the only unbeaten side in division three.
They claimed a four-wicket victory against York RI. W Outhart (37) top-scored for RI, but 15-year-old Tom Williams’ 4-14 ensured they only posted 100-7. Dan Fairclough (46) got Stockton off to a good start until G Walker’s 3-10, leaving 14-year-old Matt Durkin to score an undefeated 18 to lead his side home.
