After the third round of fixtures in the Pilmoor Evening Cricket League, Sessay and Thirsk lead the first division with maximum points.

Sessay turned in a strong performance when they made the short journey to Helperby. The home side batted first and, despite 24 from Mark Spilman, they were restricted to 87-7 by a fiery spell from James Easton, whose five overs yielded 2-16, and Matthew Till who took 2-15.

When Sessay replied, Joseph Watson looked in good touch until he was caught behind for 24, but Matthew Wass (30no) and Nick Thorne (36no) carried on the good work and Sessay won easily at 90-1.

Clifton Alliance batted consistently when they took first innings against visiting Newburgh. Jason Gatus made 22 and Ryan Partington 20 before an unbroken partnership between Andy Parkinson (33no) and Tim Weaver (22no) took them to 119-3. This proved to be out of Newburgh’s reach with the innings undermined by Alan Barton, who claimed 4-5 before Newburgh closed on 85-6.

In the second division, Dringhouses took the points at neighbours Acomb. Sam Lingard (30), Daniel Snaith (38), Chris Storey (50 ret) and Lewis Chipchase (25) were all significant contributors to their 166-6.

Ryan Diver (37) and Matt Dale (21) contributed most to the Acomb reply, but Chipchase further impacted the match by taking 3-8 and with Tom Storr also claiming 2-5, the Acomb reply closed on 111-8.

Huby recorded their first victory when they took on Civil Service.

Sean Dixon, with 44, and Mark Mierezwinski (50 ret), provided the bulk of Huby’s 127-6.

Alex Ingram was Civil Service’s outstanding bowler with 3-16, and he followed this up by easily top-scoring with 38 in the Service reply.
