Matt Hattee’s five wickets for just two runs on a raging turner at Stamford Bridge earned Osbaldwick a thrilling tie against the reigning champions in the Foss Evening Cricket League.
Osbaldwick were struggling at 10-7 as Stamford skipper Matty Beckett (4-4) and Ollie Pimlott (3-9) wrought havoc. Osso managed to scrap their way to a final total of 52-9 in 16 overs.
Batting proved to be no easier in the second innings as, despite seeming to be cruising, Stamford Bridge succumbed to the off-spin of Hattee as they finished with an identical total to their opponents.
Woodhouse Grange made the most of Stamford dropping a point, and the other four sides in the division being scuppered by the weather, as they beat Dunnington by the narrow margin of five runs.
Chris Bilton made 29 in Woodhouse’s 85-7 with three Dunnington bowlers, Josh Barrett, Rob Smith and Adam Dyson, taking two wickets each. Ben Alport was again Woodhouse’s star with the ball, taking 3-14 to ensure Jack Bolam’s 49 did not lead the Common Road side home.
Ian Holmes was the difference between the sides as Bishopthorpe inflicted a first division two defeat of the season on Bubwith. Bubwith made 84-9 as Holmes took 3-16 and youngster Rory Watson 4-10. Holmes then top-scored with 47 for the Bishops, who won by three wickets off the penultimate ball.
Dunnington Academy remain unbeaten to top division three after Johnny Andrew’s 43 underpinned their 82-7 at Askham Bryan, whose Chris Copeland claimed 4-17.
Askham struggled to 61-9 in reply.
Ovington leapfrogged a bunch of sides on five points by beating York RI. Ovington posted 105-9 led by J Whale’s unbeaten 40 and C Tune’s 30. The Railwaymen fell to 88 all out with B Svenson (3-12) and D Kitchen (3-14) the main tormentors.
