ONE of the day's few drawn games was played out in division two at New Earswick.

The home side had to settle for the lesser spoils in making 177-7 as opposed to Ripon's 216-5.

Stuart Clark struck the best innings when he made 91 and, with Dirk Van Dayke making 61, Ripon were able to set a target of more than 200.

In response, Andy James made 56 and Chris Smith 36 but Barry Kettlewell claimed 4-41 and Matthew Morton 4-41 on his debut following his transfer from Nidderdale League side Galphay & Winksley to restrict Earswick to 177-7.

The inability of Beverley to bat through their full quota of 45 overs was clinically exploited by Rowntrees who used all but one of their extra balls to overtake their opponents 197 all out to record a two-wicket win at Mille Crux.

Ali Brumfield made Beverley's top score in reaching 44 but saw his side dismissed in 43.3 overs as Dave Whittle (3-55) and Richard Tuite (3-27) produced results with the ball.

Dave Fishwick, having made 25, then took 4-58 to pressurise the Rowntrees batsmen but Whittle was again prominent as he and Ian Parnaby each made 35 before old campaigner Sean Marshall hit the winning run off the fifth ball of the 46th over.
