Sessay are proving to be a thorn in the side of reigning champions Woodhouse Grange in the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League premier division.

Nick Thorne hit 66 to propel Sessay to a fine four-wicket league victory, hot on the heels of their triumph in the pre-season President’s Trophy clash.

Batting first, Woodhouse posted 178-9, with Nick Hadfield making 48. Steve Langstaff’s 19-over spell earned him 6-52.

Thorne then led Sessay’s reply with Nick Harrison, who made 52 not out. Hadfield took 4-56, but was unable to prevent the Hambleton side reaching 181-6.

Stamford Bridge bowled Fenner out for 116, with Dave Chaplin taking 4-52 and Peter Aconley 3-5.

Danny Hagan hit an unbeaten 60 to seal Bridge’s eight-wicket win.

Thirsk’s Barry Petty took 4-80 and Ryan McKendry claimed 3-48, but Easingwold posted 197-8 thanks to Steve Piercy’s 86.

Thirsk slipped to 17-6 in 11.1 overs and, despite Kieron Fenwick’s 28 and Mark Cook’s 38, Paul Skilbeck (7-11) and Dan Copeland (3-20) had them all out for 90.

Dunnington suffered a four-wicket defeat against Clifton Alliance.

Of the Dunnington batsmen, only Gareth Miles (44) and his father, skipper Paul Miles (52), were able to make any impression as James Postill (4-26) and Richard Carroll (3-68) had them all out for 162.

In reply, Adam Slater made 40 and John Gilham an unbeaten 51.

Captain Steve Walmsley was the star of the show when Studley Royal gained an advantage draw over Acomb, whose 126-7 was short of the home side’s 159-3.

Walmsley hit 80 and Rob Nicholson 66 for the Royals. In reply, Andy Tute made 60, but Walmsley took 3-18.

In division one, Bridlington had the better of a draw with Sheriff Hutton Bridge. Brid made 214-7, with Jamie Hopper taking 4-54, and Bridge replied with 176-7. Paul Scaling top-scored with 39.

Jack Leaning’s unbeaten 56 enabled Heworth to lodge a seven-wicket home victory over Folkton & Flixton, who posted an inadequate target of 105-9. Their progress was restricted by Graham Knott (3-19) and Mark Bell (3-32).

Carlton Towers suffered a severe mauling when they entertained Osbaldwick in division two.

The York side won by 209 runs after plundering 70 off the last six overs of the innings to post 264-6.

Andy Hall made 57 not out and Josh Cockerill hit an unbeaten 33.

Earlier, Rob Bispham made 46 and Richard Carew 51.

Hall then took 6-24 as Towers crumbled to 55 all out.

Dringhouses struggled to come to terms with conditions at Selby as they made 92-8. Sam Lingard made 31, while spinner Steve Precious took 5-21. Lee Wild then made an unbeaten 69 to steer Selby to a seven-wicket victory.

Andy James made 56 as New Earswick made 108-8 in their eight-wicket home defeat to Sewerby.

In division three, Bubwith were dismissed for 78 on the way to a five-wicket defeat at Welton & Brough.

Duncombe Park defeated Hovingham by six wickets. Pace bowler Alistair Holmes claimed 5-23 to peg Hovingham to 136-9, then Jonathon Leckonby made 30 to help his side bag 30 points.

Hovingham’s Steve Mosey hit 42.

Tom Clark made 72 for York III in their 187 all out at Scarborough and Steve Beales then took 3-24 as Boro edged to a draw at 103-8.

A 115-run second-wicket stand between John Flintoff (80no) and Matt Wass (59) clinched an eight-wicket home win for Sessay against Stillington. The visitors had earlier made 168-6 with Tim Jarvis making 60.

Sheriff Hutton were all out for 123 against Bolton Percy. Bolton’s Alistair Rigby took 3-30 and then made an unbeaten 62 to seal a six-wicket win.
