WOODHOUSE Grange II stayed on course for promotion as they got the better of a draw with Castleford in division 4A of the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League.

Both sides topped the 200 mark at Cas, but the home side’s 206-6 left them tantalisingly short of the target of 207 posted by Grange.

The big Grange innings came from Rich Winterburn, who hit 83.

Leaders Goole were given a testing time by bottom placed Osbaldwick before emerging as two-wicket winners.

Adam Childe hit a splendid unbeaten century for the wooden spoonists, making 101 not out, while Matt Hattee made 28 in a total of 197-5.

Dave Woodcock made 60 for Driffield III at Yapham, whose Tom Parnell took 4-35 and Rich Walker claimed 3-35.

When Yapham replied, Geoff Room made 47 but saw his side reduced to 128-9 as Rob Woodcock claimed 4-27.

The top two sides in division 4B swapped places when Acomb won their important clash with Pickering by four wickets.

Charlie Marwood made 32 and Ryan Boyes hit 28, but the Pikes were only able to make 136-9. Neil Hinde then engineered an Acomb victory with an unbeaten 36.

At the opposite end of the table, Dringhouses moved up to tenth place and swapped places with Dunnington, whom they beat by seven wickets.

Dunnington were dismissed for 129 by Sam Bibby (3-24) and Tom Storr (4-17). Alex Stipetic then hit 68 and John Patrick 28 not out as Dringhouses reached 132-3.

Rowntrees hit a massive 297-5 at Sheriff Hutton Bridge.

There were half-centuries from Paul Horner (62), Sean Marshall (90) and Graham Pearce (59no), while Richard Tuite added 37 at his former stamping ground.

When the Bridge replied, former Rowntrees player Chris Todd made his best Bridge score of 73, but Chris Gartland (3-37) and Horner (3-22) had the final say as Bridge crumbled to 122 all out.

Neil Collinson hit 68 when Thirsk totalled 142-6 in their defeat to local rivals Easingwold.

Barry Petty added 40, but Alan Robinson claimed 4-40.

Robinson then hit 59 and Tom Langstaff 50 in an opening stand of 110.

Easingwold lost five wickets as Ross McAndrew (3-21) made the visitors work hard for their five-wicket win.

In division 5A, Carlton Towers set up an advantage draw by hitting 239 all out at Cawood, with Tim Wills taking 3-34 for the home team. P Woodhead hit 37 as Cawood closed on 103-6.

Welton & Brough were restricted to 129-9 at Civil Service as Graham Sherlock captured 4-22 and Phil Northing took 3-27.

Service lost a wicket at 31, but then sailed to a nine-wicket win due to a century stand by Darren Hanley (56no) and Liam Chisholm (54no).

Batting first against Sheriff Hutton, Hovingham lost their last wicket off the final ball of the last over to leave them on 209 all out.

Stars of the show were Peter Stark (45) and James Prest (52).

Mark Bradley replied with 38, but Sheriff were dismissed for 119 as George Wainwright claimed 3-44 and Geoff Pears 4-40.

Only nine wickets fell as leaders Huntington had the better of a draw at third-placed Pocklington.

Huntington’s 229-2 included Ralph Bradley (80) and Jason Helliwell (90), while Martin Johnson made 33 not out. Pock’s James Saltmer hit 88 and Geoff Woodward 38, but Murray Coyle’s 3-41 left them with a draw at 195-7.

York IV took a major step towards division 5B honours when they beat second-placed Whitkirk by six wickets to open up a 69-point gap.

Whitkirk made a modest 117-7 as Fraser Adams took 5-26. James Reynolds then made 37 and Matt Thomas 34 not out for York.

Mark Hepworth hit 64 and Tom Noble 55 as Bolton Percy moved to 255-6 against Cawood I, who were bowled out for 116.

Giles Toogood starred as Thorp Arch & Boston Spa beat Rowntrees by seven wickets at Mille Crux.

His bowling helped restrict Rowntrees to 143-9, with Andy Main getting 38, and he then batted throughout the reply to reach 57 not out. Chris Binnie hit 54 not out.

Tadcaster Magnet vacated bottom slot by beating Civil Service by six wickets.

Service were all out for 155 and Paul Downey’s 57 not out helped Magnet home.
