One Hunters the estate agent York and District Senior Cricket League club who had double cause to celebrate was Thirsk as both teams pulled off quick-fire victories before the adverse weather took hold.

Their first team gave their promotion hopes in division one a major boost when they whipped out Hornsea for only 51 and then raced to a ten-wicket win in just nine overs which took them top.

Hornsea had no answer to Thirsk's medium-pace twins Dave Towse and Barry Petty. Towse became the first bowler in the entire league to reach 50 wickets when he claimed his first victim and went on to underline his position at the head of the first division bowling averages by taking 6-15 in 16 overs. He was well supported by Petty, who took 4-31.

It was then the turn of the third of Thirsk's experienced trio to take control as Des Wyrill followed his highest league score of a week ago by cracking an unbeaten 40, sealing the win with a six.

Duncombe Park had their first positive result of the season when they successfully batted for a draw in a 35-over game against Goole Town.

The Ousemen made a decent 168-4, thanks to Mark Shipp with 48, Neil Foster 43no and Dave England 28no.

Brian Leckenby led Park's response with 44 but England took 3-40 and Dan Murphy 3-47 before Park reached safety at 130-6.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge went to Carlton Towers as divisional leaders but slipped into second place when their innings was cut off in its infancy at 40 without loss after just 14 overs of the match had been bowled.

Another game to fall foul of the conditions was the Driffield v Osbaldwick game which saw the home side experience highs and lows.

Firstly Andy Winterbottom produced a fine spell of bowling which saw him take 9-62 in 21.3 overs, the best bowling figures by a Driffield player in the York Senior League.

Mike Raso made 55, Simon Leveson 26 and Andy Patterson 28 but Winterbottom finished off the innings with the third hat-trick of the season to leave Osbaldwick one short of maximum batting points at 199 all out.

Driffield's response then made good progress towards victory as Mike Drury made 51 and Chris Chapman 59 but, with the score on 173-3 in 32 overs, the umpires abandoned the game due to bad light.

Having already received one monthly batting award this season, Bridlington's Hafiz Khalid laid down a serious marker for a second award when he hit 160 against Wilberfoss in division two.

Khalid's century was his third of the season and his 16th in the league and took his aggregate to 903 runs in 15 innings.

He shared in a second-wicket stand of 183 with Steve Garton, who made 65, and enabled Bridlington to declare after 38 overs having amassed 255-3.

With 52 overs to bat, bottom-placed Wilberfoss emerged with considerable credit by negotiating their extended innings to reach a draw at 222-5. Star of the show was Philip Stothard, who hit 103.

Bridlington's neighbours, Sewerby travelled to Dringhouses where they gained an eight-wicket victory.

In a 35-over game, Andy Thrall made 40 and Danny Snaith 33 to help Dringhouses reach 100-5. Kyron Ebden, having taken 3-17 in the home innings, then made 61no to see Sewerby to their target of 101-2.

Acomb had a seven-wicket division three win at the expense of struggling Malton and Old Malton who were caught in the over reduction trap and found themselves snared at 96-2 at the end of the re-vamped 33 overs.

John Foxton with 33no and Lester Parkin 29no were thus deprived of the chance to make hay in the final 12 overs. Neil Hinde then led Acomb home with an unbeaten 52.

Crayke opened a 55-point gap ahead of third-placed Clifton Alliance after a three-wicket win at Stillington.

Shami Dissanayake hit a half century, Mike Whitwell 31 and Mike Kaye 27 as Stillington posted 169 in the face of a 7-76 return from Mick Hutchinson.

Brother Paul Hutchinson weighed in with 72 and Mark Fenton added 57 as Crayke triumphed despite Shaun Speck's 3-49 and Mike Whitwell's 3-27.

Fourth division leaders Hornsea lost for only the second time this season when they fell 35 runs adrift of Pickering's 147 all out. The major innings was provided by Chris Hugill, who hit 59.
