Woodhouse Grange consolidated their position at the top of the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League premier division thanks to a last-ball win at Clifton Alliance.

Batting first after losing the toss, the visitors posted 191-7 thanks mainly to Nick Hadfield (51) and Chris Bilton (38), with Alex Renton taking 3-39.

It was Hadfield who starred with the ball, weighing in with 3-46 in Clifton’s all out 142. James Postill hit 32 and former Grange player Joel Hughes made 58.

Woodhouse Grange, the 2009 champions, are now 14 points clear of second-placed Stamford Bridge, who beat struggling Sessay by eight wickets.

The win came thanks mainly to David Chaplin’s 79 not out, and an earlier five-wicket haul from Mark Fairweather.

The home team lost only three wickets as they scored the 154 required, with Phil Daniels (64no) and Mike Cooke (30) putting on 75 for the first wicket.

Studley Royal had the better of a draw at Goole, where they reached 221-8 batting first.

Skipper Steve Walmsley (47) and Charlie Scatchard (76) were the big contributors.

The pick of the Goole bowling was David England’s 5-71.

In reply, Goole’s last pair hung on at 170-9 after earlier scores of 56 from Jake Mahoney and 36 from Kev Murphy, despite Tom Hixon’s 4-20.

In celebrating his 60th birthday, former West Indies player Collis King scored 32 as Dunnington beat visitors Easingwold by three wickets.

Stephen Piercy’s 110 threatened to ruin the party as Easingwold posted 243-5, with former skipper Martin Piercy (67) also among the runs.

Dunnington’s winning 245-7 included runs from Harwood Williams (64), Paul Miles (33), Dave Johnson (31) and Adam Sutcliffe (42).

Bottom club Heworth lost in the last over when their all out score of 148 was passed by visitors York.

York’s 150-6 was spearheaded by Heworth old boy David Simpson on 86 not out.

Earlier John Draper (25), Richard Bowling (40), and Oliver Sherwood (26) had featured for Heworth, while Mike Mortimor (5-34) had a five-wicket haul for third-placed York.
