LEADERS Woodhouse Grange are now 34 points clear at the top of the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League premier division despite being held to a draw by Fenner.
Grange’s opening pair put on 179 before Andy Bilton fell for 90. Nick Hadfield went on to make 127, his second three-figure score of the season and 17th ton in the top flight.
Skipper Steve Burdett weighed in with an unbeaten 42 as Grange posted a formidable 284-3.
Fenner’s Mike Cook hit 56 and Joe Elliott made 54, but Dave Suddaby claimed 3-39 to restrict them to 218-7.
Second-placed Stamford Bridge lost at home to Dunnington, who are now four points behind them in third.
Spinner Adam Iyer’s 5-29 had Bridge all out for 134, a total which included 36 by Dave Chaplin and 31 from Dave Bradshaw.
Dunnington’s successful reply of 135-3 was masterminded by Harwood Williams (73no).
York II suffered a surprise home defeat to neighbours Clifton Alliance.
Dave Simpson hit 81 for the hosts, but Jake Capper took 5-67 to peg York to 214-8. Clifton ran out six-wicket winners thanks to Adam Slater (51), Simon Corley (60) and John Gilham (46no).
Sessay won by seven wickets at Beverley to move out of the bottom two. Half-centuries by Anthony Spence (55) and Faisal Abid (54) helped Beverley to 231-9. Mark Wilkie claimed 3-34 and then went on to make an impressive 101 not out. He was joined in a second-wicket stand of 101 by Nick Thorne (57).
Easingwold’s Paul Redshaw, who is in his 25th year with the club, took 3-58 as Goole made 201-7, with Neil Foster hitting 69.
The Piercy cousins Steve (75) and Martin (62) put on 137 for the first wicket. Paul Skilbeck then rattled up an unbeaten 48 as the home side strolled to an eight-wicket win.
Heworth are 77 points adrift at the foot of the division after losing at Studley Royal, where the home side’s four-wicket win eased their own relegation fears.
Richard Bowling had a good day for the bottom club, making 47 in their 196-9 and then capturing half of the home side’s wickets to fall to close with 3-29.
He had batting support from W Akram (41) and talented youngster Olly Sherwood (52no).
Studley benefited from early runs by Charlie Scatchard (26) and Matt Pickles (37) before they were taken to the finishing line by Gary Blackburn (57no). Steve Walmsley supported with 46.
