LEADERS Selby produced a champion display to trounce Hornsea in division one of the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League.
Hornsea’s Richard Hornby made 47 and Ben Wallis 36, but Mike Smailes claimed 3-49 as the innings closed on 193-7.
After the loss of an early Selby wicket, Matt Hoyle and teenage star Tom Collins added 151 for the second wicket. Hoyle fell for 50 then Collins agonisingly went for 99.
However, by hitting 21 fours, Collins had powered his side to a seven-wicket win in only 27 overs as they target a second successive promotion.
Third-placed Acomb entertained second-placed Sheriff Hutton Bridge and the resulting home advantage draw saw the two sides swap places.
Acomb’s innings started badly as they were reduced to 14-3. However, Joey Burton masterminded a recovery with a valuable 51.
Joe Halstead provided some support with 32, but the bowling of Mark Fisher (3-46) and Simon Naylor (3-57) reduced them to 104-7.
Ryan Diver then hit 49 and Will Booth 26 as the tail wagged with great effect to post a good score of 206-9. Bridge too lost early wickets but made good progress through Rob Pinder (40) and Mike Smith (56).
Nick Scaling chipped in with 31, but Joe Dale bowled unchanged to take 5-75 before the last pair survived the final seven deliveries to draw at 195-9.
Thirsk eased towards safety when they had an 85-run victory over bottom-placed Clifton Alliance, who were shot out for 77 in a game played at Bubwith.
Skipper Mark Cowell hit an unbeaten 73 while James Wilkinson made 40 in a Thirsk score of 162. Dave Friend took 3-36.
The Alliance batsmen found Stuart Christon’s pace too much as he claimed 5-37. Sam Taylor-Gell took 3-10.
Pickering lost by 116 runs at Harrogate II, only making 147 in reply to the hosts’ 263-3.
A home defeat by 58 runs to Londesborough Park did little to enhance York III’s division two promotion prospects. Park’s George Drewery hit 55 in a total of 172, with Richard Lindsay taking 5-38.
York’s Tom Clark hit 37, but Darren Moody’s 4-23 saw them skittled for 114.
Second-placed Bolton Percy hit a massive 280-6 at home to Ripon but were unable to force an outright win.
Run-makers were Matt Westwood, with 67, and Jamie Rigby, who made 82.
Tom Leeming claimed 3-69 for Ripon and then hit an unbeaten 110 to ensure a draw at 218-5. Jonny Anderson claimed 4-59.
Two struggling sides clashed at St Helen’s Road where an advantage draw for Dringhouses over Pocklington left the two sides on 208 points.
Ian Camwell hit 93 and Jamie Kember 51 for Pocklington, who posted a score of 219-4.
Similarly two home batsmen made half-centuries, as Chris Evans struck 93 and Danny Snaith made an unbeaten 73 to enable Dringhouses to hold out for a draw at 211-9. Kember took 4-58 and Ted Donkin 3-23.
Bottom-placed Osbaldwick had the better of a draw with Beverley II. They posted a target of 239-7, with Josh Cockerill hitting 77. Beverley could only reach 190-8 in reply.
