THERE was a ray of sunshine amid the day of weather-enforced gloom and doom.
The Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League were delighted at the news that League vice-president Adrian Grayson had been awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
The award was made for Grayson’s services to cricket and sport in general in Bedale and North Yorkshire.
Grayson was a successful captain of the League representative side in more than 30 games, having played in the League for Northallerton and Bedale.
Among his main contributions is his heavy involvement with the development of young cricketers in North Yorkshire.
Said York & District Senior League secretary Albert Pattison: “He is to be congratulated on his award which is extremely well deserved.”
Grayson’s sons have also made illustrious impacts in professional sport.
Paul Grayson played cricket for Yorkshire and Essex. Currently he is the coach at Essex County Cricket Club.
Brother Simon is the former Leeds United and Leicester City player, who is now manager of Huddersfield Town, whom he led to Wembley play-off promotion success last month, the Terriers sealing a place in the npower Championship.
