Second division leaders Tadcaster Magnet clocked up their fifth win when they struggled to a two-wicket triumph in a low-scoring encounter with Clifton Alliance.

Lowly Alliance were blasted out for only 97 as Ben Preston returned figures of 7-33. Only Nick Hindle with 26 offered any resistance.

Magnet also struggled in the rain-affected conditions as John Thornton hit back with 6-37 before the Brewers crept to a winning 98-8.

Beverley Town II boosted their promotion drive with a 26-point draw at Whitkirk whose reward was three points less than that received by the no-players.

In a total of 200-6, Beverley’s top scorer was Tim Smith with 50. P Hind made 40 before a good stand between P Best (35no) and Nick Robinson (29no) ensured maximum batting points for the visitors.

Home bowler Ben Danby took 4-84. Whitkirk were then steered to a fairly comfortable draw at 132-7 by Matt Murphy (57no) and Phil Handley (25).

The fourth division clash between Fenner and Hull Zingari saw the advantage reversed from the division one encounter between the two clubs.

A half-century by D Johnson (52), plus 25 from John Park, had Fenner taking tea on 155-8.

Anthony Knowles had bagged 4-22 and then followed with a mini knock of 21. Roger Burnham made 24 for Zingari but it was the unbeaten 28 by M Russell that earned a draw at 139-7.

Whitkirk II have played more games than most, but this has not been particularly helpful as they trail the fifth division after suffering their seventh defeat at Welton & Brough.

The home side posted 154-6 with Mark Allbones making 56 and Greg Fewster 30. S Rudd had a return of 3-24 but then saw his side ousted for 96 as T Foster took 5-19. There was an half-century in vain from Luke Massey, who made 55.
