Just when any one thought the weather could not get any worse, another week of widespread rain caused 38 Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League games to be abandoned without a ball bowled.

This is one more casualty than on the opening day of the season, although, on that occasion a further five games were called off in mid-play.

This latest series of cancellations brings the number of uncompleted games to a seasonal total of 171 which represents 41.3 per cent of the scheduled games.

For the first time this season, all six games were abandoned without play in the premier division – a fate which also befell division three for the second successive week, along with divisions six and seven.

However, all eight games that did get under way were able to play out to a conclusion.

With the top two teams out of action in division one, Hull Zingari and Folkton & Flixton took the opportunity to press their claims.

Third-placed Zingari moved up a place after beating fellow Hull side Fenner by seven wickets in a low-scoring game. Visiting Fenner were shot out for just 50 as Andrew Page with 4-13, Matt Bunn 3-4 and H Khalid 3-16 proved too hot to handle.

Zingari lost three wickets in mounting their successful reply, which was controlled by Ali Markham who made an unbeaten 36.

The best batting of the day saw Folkton’s Nick Zakrzewski (64) and Scott Cooper (67) post a second-wicket stand of 131 as their team batted first against Pickering.

Richard Malthouse became the third host batsman to reach a half- century with 50 not out from a 217-4 total.

Pickering's batsmen made a pretty good fist in their reply with Colin Frank (47) and Craig Aconley (33) putting on 87 for the fifth wicket after Mark Shepherd had made 32.

However, Matt Hunter, who took 4-48, joined forces with Malthouse, who snared 3-47, to maintain overall control and leave Pickering with an 11-point draw on 187-9 as Flixton continued their improved form with a 27-point reward.

Bottom-placed Bridlington won an important encounter with Bolton Percy that reduced their deficit to just three points.

Bolton batted first in better weather conditions and made 154-7.

Four batsmen made starts, but none were able to go on to hit a more telling score. Topping the frame was Danny White with 35 followed by Tom Malloch on 27 and Peter Houseman with 28.

Ali Rigby then made an unbeaten 29. Pick of the home bowling was S Jenney with 3-35. Bridlington’s advance to a seven-wicket win was sealed by Simon Garton (30), John Major (58) and Shaun Tate’s 38no.
