Dunnington beat champions Woodhouse Grange to move into second place in the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League premier division.
On yet another rain-affected weekend, former Stockton & Hopgrove bowler Josh Barrett produced a match-winning performance for Dunnington.
They successfully defended a modest total to beat visiting Grange by 15 runs in a closely-fought derby game.
Dave Johnson was head and shoulders above any other batsman on either side as he made 51 for the hosts.
His Dunnington team-mates fared badly as Richard Mann took 4-34 and Steve Burdett 3-41 to dismiss them for 117.
The value of Johnson’s innings then became apparent as no Woodhouse batsman was able to reach the 25 mark against rampant medium pacer Barrett, whose figures of 7-49 saw Grange dismissed for 102.
One of the better batting efforts came from leaders and championship contenders Clifton Alliance, who popped over the Clifton Park boundary fence to clock up a 96-run win over neighbouring York II.
Clifton’s total of 207-8 was founded on a second-wicket stand of 102 between Adam Slater (43) and Scott Hopkinson (63).
Richard Love took 3-35 for York, but then saw his side tumbled out for 111 as Alex Renton (4-27) and Rob Gillespie (3-20) turned the screw.
Nick Kay’s 25 was the only bright spot in York’s batting display.
All the other top flight games were washed out as the adverse weather hit the tenth round of fixtures.
The latest disruption saw 19 games totally washed out, while raising the seasonal total of abandonments to 190.
Meanwhile, league officials have taken disciplinary action against two un-named players.
A statement read: “The league’s stated intent to improve player behaviour has been enforced with the suspension of a premier division player for four weeks and a fifth division player for two weeks.
“Both players were found to be guilty of dissent, disputing a decision and using foul and abusive language towards an umpire.”
