Chesney Hughes posted a maiden double century during the second morning as Derbyshire strengthened their grip on the LV= County Championship match against Yorkshire at Headingley.

On the day when the White Rose county announced Mark Arthur, formerly of Nottinghamshire CCC and Nottingham Forest FC, as their new chief executive, Hughes has advanced the visitors’ first-innings score to 416-7 at lunch with an unbeaten 240.

Tim Bresnan, Adil Rashid and Steve Patterson all struck during the second morning.

Hughes shared 81 for the sixth wicket with former White Rose player David Wainwright after Bresnan had Dan Redfern caught at second slip early on this morning.

Rashid trapped Wainwright lbw on the sweep to claim his 300th first-class wicket before Patterson also rapped Jon Clare on the pads.

Hughes’ 240 is the highest score by a Derbyshire player in matches against Yorkshire.

Meanwhile, 54-year-old Arthur has joined the White Rose county after being sacked by Forest in January. Yorkshire’s last chief exec was Stewart Regan in 2010, but Colin Graves has since held the post of executive chairman.

He will revert his title of chairman. Arthur said: “I am delighted to be joining Yorkshire as chief executive. It is an honour and a massive opportunity to be part of the biggest cricket club in the world.”
