Chesney Hughes sent records tumbling with an unbeaten 270 for Derbyshire against Yorkshire at Headingley today.
The powerful left-hander underpinned his side’s 475 all out, in which Wayne Madsen also scored 93 and leg-spinner Adil Rashid claimed 3-122 for the hosts during the second day of this LV= County Championship.
Yorkshire have responded well by reaching tea at 53-0 from 13 overs, with Adam Lyth on 28 not out and Joe Root unbeaten on 25.
The White Rose country struck three times during the afternoon, as they did in the morning. Liam Plunkett bowled Tom Poynton, Jack Brooks bowled Tony Palladino before Rashid trapped Tim Groenewald.
The last wicket left Hughes, who faced 415 balls and hit 40 fours and three sixes, five runs short of posting Derbyshire’s highest individual score in their first-class history.
Hughes’s score is also tied fifth on the list of highest scores on this ground, while his is the third highest score by anyone in the Championship this decade. All three of those have come against Yorkshire.
