ENGLAND captain Michael Vaughan will make his first Yorkshire appearance since last June when he turns out for Phoenix against Scottish Saltires in the Friends Provident Trophy clash in Edinburgh tomorrow.

Vaughan, who returned from England's disastrous World Cup campaign on Wednesday, did some training with Yorkshire physiotherapist Scott McAllister at Headingley Carnegie yesterday before the team was announced.

He takes the place of Richard Pyrah and is expected to open the innings with Craig White.

Director of cricket, Martyn Moxon, said: "A batsman of Michael's quality is bound to add something to the side and it is good to have him back."

Moxon admitted, however, that the inclusion of Vaughan in next week's Championship match against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl will create problems regarding who to leave out.

Vaughan's last game for Yorkshire was against Sussex at Arundel last June when his knee finally broke down again and he was forced to have another operation.

Now, however, Vaughan is fully fit and wants to improve his batting form before the Test series against the West Indies gets underway in May.

Yorkshire should have little difficulty in continuing their 100 per cent winning record this season and they also have Anthony McGrath back in the side after missing the Championship match with Durham because of a chest infection.

Gerard Brophy will play if there is an improvement today in his bruised right hand but if there is any doubt about his fitness he will be replaced by Simon Guy who is in excellent form himself, having scored a century for the Second XI at Reigate earlier this week before taking three catches and pulling off a stumping for Yorkshire yesterday when he stood in for Brophy.

Matthew Hoggard, left out of the opening Friends Provident game at Trent Bridge last Sunday, comes in for Jason Gillespie who should be able to prove his fitness on Monday after recovering from a stiff back.

Yorkshire: White, Vaughan, Rudolph, Younus Khan, McGrath, Gale, Gilbert, Bresnan, Gough, Brophy, Hoggard.
